Greta Thunberg is annoying and does a disservice to raising climate change awareness

Why does everyone who supports these issues have to be so douchey?

reply

I agree. She is irritating.

reply

I totally disagree. I don't think she is annoying or douchey at all. I think she is adorable and likeable.

reply

🤮

reply

FBI! OPEN UP!

reply

I think she is brave and fierce and courageous. Most kids her age are self-absorbed in Tik Tok vanity or BTS Armydom or their college apps. Here’s a kid who puts herself out there in a mean, judgemental world to advocate for something that affects everyone.

reply

FYI the word for men who act all butthurt when criticized by a little girl is "manbaby" (var. "man-baby" or "giant man baby").

That is, a grown man who whines or throws tantrums when he doesn't get his way in unimportant things, or who feels disrespected or gets criticized by someone he thinks should be looking up to him.

reply

Lol shut up

reply

[One-finger salute]

reply

I don't mean this in a derogatory way at all but she seems to be autistic...I have a couple of autistic people in my extended family so NO insult intended towards her

She seems to be a mouthpiece for her parents or guardians and she does come off as grating and obnoxious sometimes

As for the environment we certainly should clean up our act but an annoying 16 year old kid droning on is not very helpful

I do like that she triggers some people
It cracks me up to hear adults freak out over an abrasive kid that isn't half wrong...maybe I have an odd sense of humor..?

reply

Yeah exactly

Yeah exactly

THIS IS YOUR ADULT FREAK OUT POST ABOUT HER.🙄

reply

Greta has been open about being on the autism spectrum.

Personally I like her no-bullshit approach, she's gotten the message through to the sort of people who'd never listen to a reasoned and scientific explanation.

reply

I guessed the autism thing, but it was not difficult if you've met them or lived with them
All power to her👍

She does seem to be used as a shill by her 'grown ups' though and is clearly scripted and a bit annoying

I do applaud her ability to completely piss off angry people 😆

reply

I agree, it is obvious that she is been used as a shill and a pawn by grown ups and yet so many are criticizing and condemning a girl with a developmental disorder instead of blaming the adults that are using her; some people have no shame.

reply

Just leave it alone, for god's sake. How many layers do you need to peel to just let this young lady live her life? It's not her, it's her parents? How much research are you doing on this young lady to lead you to this conclusion? And why would someone care to comment on it?
And climate change deniers need to find a new hobby. The entire world environment is being despoiled in many ways, CC being only one. We need to get a handle on it.

reply

"leave it alone"? ...You are here commenting as well.

"How much research"...none, she admitted it in one of her speeches that she has been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD), and selective mutism.

"conclusion?"...I'm not the only one that sees that she is been used by adults...open your eyes and ears.

No deniers here as climate change has been clear, apparent, and obvious for the past twenty years.

reply

I will admit I am fascinated and appalled how so many will crowd like a murder of crows over a young girl's wish for the world to be a better place.

I find using her parents as an excuse to beat up on her to be pretty weak sauce and disingenuous. People can make a thread about her parents if they feel the need, not make Greta a dartboard for internet abuse.

reply

No one has specifically mentioned her parents except you, the word grown-ups and adults was used(in general), and yes, they should point their fingers at the adults and not at her.

"not make Greta a dartboard for internet abuse."...I agree, however, it is a free country, freedom of speech and all that, and everyone is entitled to their opinions even if/when we do not agree with them.

reply

"murder of crows"

We need greater usage of collective pronouns.

reply

"climate change has been clear, apparent, and obvious for the past twenty years"

I'd say it's a bit longer than that.

reply

She is the wrong messenger and with the wrong message. I listen to climatologists. Not uneducated little girls who are brainwashed by insane liberal parents.

reply

finally a conservative who admit man made global warming is happening and believes in the science.

reply

Do you know of a single person who has seriously changed their lifestyle based on what she's said? And if they have why did they live under a rock for so many years before?

reply

I have never asked anyone directly, if they changed their behavior because of little Greta.

But the fact is that hardly anyone changes their behavior because of one other person, and changing the behavior of the mass of humanity or the mass of consumer humanity is going to take time and infinite repetition, if it happens at all. Getting any message out to everyone on the planet needs to be like water dripping on the stone, keep the message going, gradually wear down resistance, and gradually one person doesn't turn the air conditioning down and another takes the train instead of driving, and another decides not to buy a product made in China, and another decides not to use fireworks at a gender-reveal party held outdoors in dry country. Keeping climate change on the evening news and in the headlines is the best way to push for that sort of gradual change, and Greta gets headlines and on the evening news.

Plus, she pisses off the sort of people I like to see being made uncomfortable.

reply

Yes, and we have to start fixing Stupid by giving our children a Liberal education, not one filled with hate and bigotry and lies. Sure there are excesses on the Progressive side, (and I'm unsure I should even offer this olive branch), but we need our citizens to question authority, to have compassion for the dispossessed, to know in their hearts what it means to be a Christian and not a soldier for a manipulative political party.

reply

The good Christians are going to have to work on the bad ones, because the bad Christians don't listen to people like me!

I wish I could be more optimistic, but the current pandemic has revealed such widespread depths of stupidity and ignorance in the US that I'm just about ready to give up on my home country. Well, maybe people like Greta can get the message through to the rest of the world, where hopefully people have more sense.

reply

Right. Pissing off the people you hope to persuade is a great idea.

reply

No, it's the sensible people that need persuading.

Some people are just determined to live and die as assholes, and there's no persuading them to see sense. All you can do with such people is mock them and have fun at their expense.

reply

Or you can leave them alone and see what comes from it. You people who love partisan tensions make things so much worse than they need to be. You are the reason that Biden will not bring about unity during his term.

Odd to see you call on good Christians to work with the bad element in the religion but you have no problem with being the bad element in politics. The irony of it should make any sensible person's head hurt.

reply

In any field, those that are persuadable need to be persuaded to see sense.

Those that are not persuadable, because they are stupid or determined to be assholes, need to be mocked and shunned. Isolating them prevents others from joining them.

reply

Suit yourself but as someone who wants real progress in this area I can't help feel that it's people like you who are just as responsible for the hold outs than anyone else. Considering the number of assholes I see who "believe" in climate change but won't change their lifestyles or their attitudes about it I doubt there will ever be substantial change. As a matter of fact, if it wasn't for partisan assholery I doubt many of them would give a damn either way. We already know that the urgency of the situation hasn't changed them.

reply

"Suit yourself but as someone who wants real progress in this area I can't help feel that it's people like you who are just as responsible for the hold outs than anyone else."

Oh for God's sake. You DO realize you're being ridiculous, don't you?

The people most responsible are the big corporations and corrupt governments and bought politicians and corporate media that serves the interests of the destructive super-rich, and after that come the sociopathic materialists who want to consume until the planet is gone. Allies who don't quite agree with you should occupy the millionth place down on your enemies list, but the left has always had a big problem with people who'd rather attack allies who don't quite agree with them than their enemies, because the allies are an easier target. And that is exactly what you are doing here.

So don't reply, go argue with an actual climate change denier.

reply

I doubt you live a life much different than a denier. Again, if it wasn't for being able to politicize the issue you probably wouldn't give a fuck. I've seen the likes of you before.

reply

GO ARGUE WITH SOMEONE WHO DISAGREES WITH YOU ABOUT THE ISSUES.

reply

I'll do what I like. I hate partisan shits like you. Hateful, bigoted and fear mongering. You don't give a damn about the environment, you just want to push your hateful shit on anyone who doesn't goose step like you.

reply

GO ARGUE WITH SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T UNDERSTAND CLIMATE CHANGE.

reply

I don't listen to you. You're doing damage to a rightful cause. A hateful little bigot and you need to be ferreted out for what you are. Typing your hateful shit in caps doesn't make it any more tolerable either.

reply

ATTACK YOUR ENEMIES, NOT YOUR ALLIES.

Sounds like I really struck a nerve.

reply

Yeah, the nerve that says you're not a sincere environmentalist. Did you really need clued into this? And I guess I struck a nerve since you keep replying after you said you wouldn't and mostly do it in all caps.

reply

Some people are just determined to live and die as assholes, and there's no persuading them to see sense. All you can do with such people is mock them and have fun at their expense.

The people you see as “assholes” is completely subjective and based on nothing more than your worldview or political affiliations. You could also easily be considered an “asshole” yourself by the criteria in your own quote, wanting to mock and make fun of the people YOU feel are “assholes”, which makes you no better than they are.

reply

Why does it matter if she is autistic or not? Why does her age matter too? The only real criteria for being a public advocate is to have a willing audience which she has gathered, whether the rest of the population likes it or not. With all the choices for information gathering out there it is fairly easy to avoid her. Just click her off your screens. I find that works for avoiding most annoying people who rise to be public figures.

reply

I don't think it matters but she seems to be being fed lines...it's a pretty artificial act

reply

Whatever it is the message is important and not artificial. There are better ways to seek fame and recognition than battling a hostile world of climate denialism and corporate greed.

reply

Are you lots of fun at parties😂

reply

THEY FED SHIRLEY TEMPLE HER LINES TOO...STILL LOVABLE.😀

reply

She was pretty annoying too...kids🙄

reply

I THINK IM GETTING MELLOW IN MY OLD AGE.

reply

How dare you!

I agree! She's an arrogant, irritating little bitch!

reply

How do you feel about "Judge Judy"? I can't stand her. She's obnoxious and rude.

reply

If I may cut in Judge Judy is an obnoxious, rude asshole...she is also a millionaire owing to her ridiculous performances...Such strange days we live in...

reply

It's funny how she lectures everyday folks on financial issues. "Just get a 2nd job!".

No surprise she backs Bloomberg (a crook).

reply

Yeah, I really dislike her too
It's pretty impressive that she became a millionaire based on being a nasty jerk on TV...

Funny how being a total knob is a good business:/

reply

Clearly because they know they're wrong.

Greta is an immature and spoiled brat who deserves all the crap she gets.

reply

The douchery is on the other side here ... i.e. the whiner, you. This girl has the admiration of the world, and all you can do it whinge about her. You're useless.

reply

Lol shut up, everyone else agrees she sucks

reply

No not everyone.

reply

Yeah the only ones who don’t are equally douchey bleeding hearts

reply

Nice. I’ve supported a lot of your bleeding heart, self serving posts on this board and tried to offer some friendly perspectives to help you along with your romantic struggles. But now I think the ladies had it right all along.

reply

Lol what have you supported? You realize how weak and pathetic it is to renounce support of one issue because someone voices an opinion of another that you disagree with?

reply

No it was weak of you to name call people who have been kind to you.

reply

Not me. You're the one who wished she sucks.

reply

I hear she is starting a rock band Greta Van Thunberg

reply

Do they sound like a cross between Led Zeppelin and AC/DC too?

reply
