Notable Actors Without An Oscar

quite a list
https://m.imdb.com/poll/OpaeupbBTEs/?ref_=m_nm_po

who do you think is the greatest omission, and what film should most merit their award ?

don't limit yourself to that list, if you have another actor in mind.

edit: here's a more exhaustive list
https://www.ranker.com/crowdranked-list/greatest-actors-who-have-never-won-an-oscar

pretty incredible the number of great actors who never got that award, and the lesser ones who did.

reply

Jackie Chan. He can act as if he can't do kungfu, but actually he can, but actually he can't.

reply

segall is maybe better than him at that, and he doesn't have an oskar either. so factor that in.

reply

Seagull never acts as if he can't do marital arts. He always plays as an expert. All the time.

reply

He has a particular set of skills

reply

That list is a little out of date but it's depressing reading.

These two giants of cinema spring to mind:

Peter O'Toole, 8 nominations, zero wins.
Richard Burton, 7 nominations, zero wins.

I'd vote for one of those two.

reply

Glenn Close has never won either. 😐

reply

She's close tho'.

reply

Why is Tobey Maguire on that list? No one is shocked.

I'll add:
Amy Adams
Glenn Close
Annette Bening
Tom Wilkinson
Albert Finney
Charlotte Rampling
Don Cheadle
Ed Harris

reply

I thought Annette won for American beauty

reply

Nope. Only Kevin Spacey.

reply

THAT weirdo

reply

Edward Norton
Nick Nolte
John Goodman
Harvey Keitel
Ralph Fiennes
Bill Murray
John Malkovich

Glenn Close
Amy Adams
Sigourney Weaver
Diane Lane
Michelle Pfeiffer
Kathleen Turner
Rosamund Pike

reply

I have thought of John Malkovich, Ralph Fiennes, and Bill Murray. John and Bill have now gone back to doing comedies in recent years. Ralph Fiennes seems to have stopped doing dramas too.

reply

Fiennes should won for Schindler's List and Murray for Groundhog Day.

reply

I agree. It's ridiculous that Fiennes lost for Schindler's List to Tommy Lee Jones in the Fugitive. Though I don't agree about Bill Murray winning for Groundhog Day since there is no way he was better than Tom Hanks in Philadelphia.

reply

some noteworthys

tim roth
richard burton
richard harris
joaquin phoenix
willem dafoe
albert finney

reply

Good thread, JRiles....

But one of the names above doesn’t belong. A well-deserved win, IMHO.

reply

good catch. take Joaquin off that list.

reply

Edward G Robinson

reply

Saoirse Ronan, but she has time, and I think it’ll happen.

Will Viggo Mortensen ever get one? I think he’s good. Robert Downey Jr. has the talent, with the right part he could snag one.
