What was the Rays manager thinking???

Kevin Clueless pulls his hot pitcher, who had only given up 2 hits over 73 pitches, in the 6th inning because "the numbers say so". The Dodgers pummel the subsequent relief pitchers for 3 runs to win the game and the World Series.

Maybe the front office can justify the decision by saying, "He's being paid to protect our financial investments from over-exertion." But the Rays' fans will always wonder if the result would have been different if they hadn't trusted the academics.

It's amusing how the academics weren't interested in baseball when the players were essentially blue-collar workers who had to find jobs in the off-season.

You'd think being that deep into the World Series, no one would be worried about over exertion. They'll have the next 6 months to recover. Did they go to the Kawhi Leonard School of Load Management?

It is the new style of managing.

They have become slaves to #'s and have give no quarter to the human element. (If the pitcher is got great stuff today)

A key # that is in the managers mind is the batting average increase once they have seen the same pitcher the third time in the order. (Goes from .200 to .300 generally)

I agree. That was a bone head move. You should always stick with a hot pitcher until he begins to falter.

it's all about the stats now.

I understand the decision; I don’t agree with it but I get it. The third time around the lineup and all that shyt. But damn, Snell was dealing. Only made three bad pitches: the hit to Taylor, left one up to Barnes who went soft contact to center, and another down the middle that Taylor tapped with a check-swing. What I don’t get, if their trio of fireballers are so interchangeable, why go with Anderson? He was getting owned all series by the dodgers, he wasn’t fooling anyone. Fairbanks or Castillo would’ve been the better call IMHO.

It’s actually amazing the rays got this far. With the exception on Arozarena, their bats were cold, lots of swing and miss. Adames, clueless; other than the 3 homers, Lowe was awful; Zunino, lol. Gutsy team those rays, a full season from Azozarena, a few more bats, another starter, they might be on to something.

Sounds like a dumb decision, but par for the course with today's game.
