Should prostitution be legal in all 50 US states?

I think it's really silly that except in certain counties of Nevada, prostitution is illegal.

Who is it hurting?

I think it's pretty much a victimless crime that should be regulated and taxed.

Prostitutes should be mandated to get licenses from their sate if they want to do it, and their earnings should be legitimately counted and taxed like all other occupation wages.

What do you think? Should it be legal in all 50 states? Could you support it being legal in all 50 states?

Would you encourage it to become legal in all 50 states?

reply

Yes, but only because it would be safer for the w̶h̶o̶r̶e̶s̶ prostitutes. Instead of going into someone's car or a hotel, they could be in a w̶h̶o̶r̶e̶h̶o̶u̶s̶e̶ brothel where there is security.

reply

Yeah. I support legalizing it. When you legalize it, the government can make regulations to make it a safe industry and reduce abuse and STD's. And collect a shitload of taxes on it which will help drive the economy.

Making it illegal doesn't act as a deterrence at all. People will do it regardless. It's known as the "world's oldest profession". It's always been around. Not to mention when you make it illegal, that's when it becomes unsafe and more risk for STD's and abuse from pimps.

Making it illegal for "immoral" reasons is just silly and naive.

I support legalized brothels and whores.

Also, I'd argue that if you legalize prostitution then child prostitution/child trafficking abuse would reduce dramatically.

reply

i definitely am all for legalization. i'm generally going to come down on the side of personal freedom.

& as others have stated, it would make the industry safer. not just safer for the workers. safer for everyone.

reply

Yes.
Along with all drugs.

reply

I think we should decriminalize all drugs, but not legalize. No one should go to jail for possession, but we can't start selling heroin and meth at the corner store.

reply

I barely even drink but if I want to do mushrooms or a little coke on some random weekend, I think that should be my choice and completely legal.

I think actual Drug Stores would be the way to go.

reply

I'm pretty liberal when it comes to drug use, but having having life destroying drugs like meth and heroin available to the masses will never happen. These substances can't be used recreational in a responsible manner like alcohol can. Take just a little too much heroin and you're dead. Ever met a tweaker? Meth is some fucked up shit. If you want drugs, go buy some on the Dark Web.

reply

yes as long as it is not in my neighborhood.

FILTH !

"I think it's pretty much a victimless crime that should be regulated and taxed."

The taxing part is easy, the hard part is setting up the regulatory agencies, in an age when tax-phobia and anti-government sentiment are at outrageous levels in some area. In order for prostitution to be safe and legal, someone has to make sure that everyone involved is of legal age, that human trafficking is stamped out, that the workers have a fair salary/payment structure, that working conditions are safe, etc.

The thing is, if the exploitation of the underage, human trafficking, financial abuses, and dangerous working conditions aren't stamped out, then prostitution is not a victimless crime after all... and you get the profit margin from human trafficking and financial abuses and so on. If prostitution is legalized, taxed, and regulated, then IMHO illegal prostitution will still flourish.

I bet if you legalize adult prostitution then it would free up resources & time to combat child prostitution/trafficking.

reply

IS any law enforcement time devoted to going after adult sex workers, instead of the people who engage in human trafficking or the sexual exploitation of minors? God knows I'm no expert in the field, but I thought that a lot of adult independent sex workers were advertising freely on the internet rather than walking the streets, where any cop with a cell phone can find them.

IMHO the legalization of adult prostitution would result in an net increase in governmental time spent on prostitution, as illegal trafficking and the abuse of kids would still happen so the cops would still need to be involved, plus setting up new regulatory bodies costs money. Of course, the taxation might cover the costs, but you won't be freeing up resources.
