what was your first favorite?

Thinking back, what was the first song, movie, or tv show, that you remember calling your favorite?

My mom was always listening to adult contemporary smooth ballads and white people soul of the 80s and early 90s.

My first favorite song was Right Here Waiting by Richard Marx. 5 year old me loved that song, and I suppose I still do.

My first favorite movie was The Neverending Story, and my first favorite TV show was The Simpsons.

Are you saying as a kid High Noon was your favorite movie?

reply

my brother and i used to watch westerns with our father.

reply

Ok..just checking. It does make sense.

the first tv show i can really remember geeking out over was battlestar galactica. i'm sure there must have been some before that, but that's the first one i can remember having a real impact on me.

we never really had much music in our house, at least not when i was young. but my older brother recently told me when i was 4 or 5 i couldn't get enough of neil diamond's porcupine pie. weird choice on my part, but ok.

haha, i used to fancy erica ehm quite a bit!

i just took a look, & i have to say she still looks pretty foxy for a 60 yr old.

Song..Hopelessly Devoted to You 1978..I was thinking something off the Xanadu soundtrack but that was 82 so this would be the first song I really liked.

Tv...either I Love Lucy or Twilight Zone not sure which I saw first..Probably Lucy

Movie....Clash of the Titans (1981)..Still in my top 5 movies of all time.

Clash of the Titans (1981) is great. I remember seeing it at the drive in movie theater in a station wagon when it came out. They must have played Star Wars for years because I remember it being shown on the other screen at the same time. I kept turning around to watch it but the speaker in our car had Clash of the Titans playing.

I think you realized how much you like a movie when you can watch it for the 20th time, 40 years later..40 years..Yikes.

reply

I had a Clash of the Titans t-shirt and poster of Medusa looming over me as a kid. LOL

Song was possibly Bohemian Rhapsody, I didn't really care about music as a young kid, but later on I liked Adam & The Ants and The Police.

My first fave movie was Star Wars, I don't remember any faves before that, but probably something by Disney.

TV show is easy, I used to love watching Monkey, it has the funkiest intro and theme tune ever! https://youtu.be/iiqkwPJTJko

Honestly its sad but I don't think I heard Queen until I got to college. It wasn't very big in Calif. in the 80s.

Music: The Beatles
TV: My mom said it was Diver Dan, but looking at it on YouTube it doesn't ring a bell other than the name.
Movie: Didn't really have a favorite as far as I remember. It wasn't like you could easily watch a movie over and over back then if you were a kid.

TV show: The Simpsons. Kind of was guaranteed as a kid born in the early 80s and this was always on TV.
Movie: Jaws. My dad rented it one weekend when I was 7 and I loved it. He then bought it on VHS. Oddly enough, I haven't seen the film in about 20 years.
Song: "All Along the Watchtower" by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. I was 11 or 12 years old and my sister had the CD in her room. I thought the front cover was cool so I took it. I was impressed by the guitar. I didn't love the album when I was young, but I love it now.
