Favorite Zombie Movies

We talked about Romero’s zombie movies and which ones are our favorites, so it got me thinking of zombie movies in general. I love finding about ones I haven’t seen yet so what are everyone’s favorite Zombie films. Below are some that come immediately to mind for me:

Zombie (1979)
Fulci’s gore fest has an amazing hopeless and dreadful feel to it. Great score and the only zombie vs shark scene I know of.

Return of the Living Dead (1985)
Kick ass punk rock score and perfect blend of horror and humor.

Hell of the Living Dead (1980)
Bruno Mattei directs this obscure zombie tale that had both silly and down right shocking scenes.

Burial Ground: Nights of Terror (1981)
Most sleazy and bizarre zombie film ever complete with one of the strangest kids in movie history.

Gotta say I love Zombieland. Woody Harrelson is just so damn funny!

Wyrmwood (2014) is a surprisingly good, hidden gem from Australia.

reply

You gotta have cardio to survive in Zombieland.

reply

Also the never used (in horror movies) double tap!

reply

28 Days Later, by far.

I know there is some question about whether the infected sprinters in that film are traditional zombies, but close enough for my money 👍

reply

I know what you mean Tim. One of my favorites is Nightmare City (1980), staring the world famous Hugo Stiglitz, which has running infected people. But yeah, it’s a fine line.

reply

Absolutely, you could also add World War Z to that list (incidentally another of my favourites). Perhaps it’s just the natural evolution of the genre, there’s only so much tension you can squeeze from shuffling corpses who moan “braaaaains”

reply

The Zombie genre is not my favourite but I like a few of them

Shaun of the Dead (2004)
Return of the Living Dead (1985)
Dead Snow (2009) and Dead Snow 2 (2014)
Rabid (1977)
Dead of Night (1974)
One Cut of the Dead (2017)

reply

Rabid? How have I never seen that one??

reply

It's different, but I like it.

reply

STARRING PORN QUEEN MARILYN CHAMBERS AND DIRECTED BY DAVID CRONENBERG...ITS CHEAP AND SLEAZY BUT WORTH THE WATCH.

reply

I’m watching it now. There was just a bad motorcycle wreck.

reply

That is a fun one no doubt. It has a Shivers vibe. 👍

reply

I was thinking the same thing. Its not my favorite genre either. I would say I enjoyed Shaun of the Dead more than any other.

reply

Based on what your likes, I might suggest Dr Butcher M.D./Zombie Holocaust(1980) and Cemetery Man(1994).

Return of the Living Dead is my absolute favorite.
The original Night and Savini remake, Day of the Dead, Shaun of the Dead....
Pretty typical, vanilla favorites.

reply

YEE HAW....CEMETARY MAN IS AWESOME!

reply

I have Zombie Holocaust on a VHS that has some great coming soon trailers in the beginning too. I haven’t seen Cemetery Man though.

reply

I think it must’ve been a Netflix rent at some point.
I did rent Cemetery Man on VHS when I was younger. Check it out!

reply

I even like the ending for some reason. I usually dislike things like that.

reply

1. Dawn of the Dead original
2. Day of the Dead original
3.Return of the Living Dead
4. Night of the Living Dead remake
5. 28 Days Later
6. City of the Walking Dead
7. Return of the Living Dead 2
8. 28 Weeks Later
9. Night of the Living Dead original
10. Resident Evil

WWZ was a massive disappointment as was Land of the Dead.

And I have never gotten the hype for Shaun of the Dead or Zombieland.

reply

We almost got the same list there. Differences are just that I like Shaun of the Dead (but not Zombieland) and I would replace 28 Weeks Later with Train to Busan. Everything else is right on for me.

reply

I still haven't seen Train to Bussan, but have heard great things about it. I should check it out.

reply

Besides the usual ones, I'd recommend that are different:

Night of the Living Deb (2015) - Zombies + romantic comedy
Anna and the Apocalypse (2017) - Zombies + musical

Unexpectedly, both make the combination work.

reply

Its certainly a genre thats been done to death and wont die!

reply

You have to destroy the brain. 😀

reply

Not a fan of zombie genre so I haven't seen many.
The only one I own is Zombieland, which is not only a good scary movie but funny, too.
