Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955-62) is my fall and winter binge

I have not seen any of these. There are 268 episodes in total and I have watched 15 so far. You can't help comparing it to the Twilight Zone (1959-64). You see the same actors in both series like William Shatner, Jack Klugman and Dick York.

reply

They are similar in era and guest stars.

I don't think it's anywhere near as good as the Twilight Zone, but I watched a ton of episodes on Me TV or Antenna TV when it was on...probably still is.

Glad to see it's on Peacock. I wish they would add the 80's version.

reply

How does it stack up to the TZ so far?
As great or a bit less so?

reply

No aliens or time travel and nothing supernatural like the TZ. Every episode so far involves a crime with a Hitchcockian twist at the end.

reply

There is one science fiction episode I recall written by or based on a Ray Bradbury short story.

reply

i will keep an eye out for this one.

reply

Shopping for Death by Ray Bradbury is one of my favorites because of Jo Van Fleet’s performance. It is science fiction with a light touch.

reply

Sounds good
Enjoy

reply

I know of one episode that has a supernatural twist but I won’t name the episode so I don’t spoil it.

reply

there one in season one titles "whodunit" where a guy goes to heaven and is sent back to find out who killed him.

reply

Is that the one that is a three parter?

reply

the three parter was i killed the count. john williams was in that one and whodunit.

reply

is it streaming anywhere? i just tried poking around, & i don't see it on any of the usual suspects.

edit - i didn't look in the most obvious place, mind you. looks like there's quite a few posted on youtube.

reply

if you have vpn set to usa, you can get it on peacock.

Alfred Hitchcock is also on the schedule for MeTV, usually at 1 AM ET, preceded by an episode of The Twilight Zone. The schedule has been juggled around in recent years.

Some of Hitchcock's episodes are very good.

I was a devoted fan of the series when I was young. It was supplemented by this great reading:
Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine and https://the.hitchcock.zone/wiki/Alfred_Hitchcock_Presents:_Stories_Not_for_the_Nervous_(book)

reply

I figure Rod Serling watched this series and decided to take it to the next level. Many of the episodes from both shows have the same theme.

reply

I have watched Season 1. Episodes are only 25 minutes long and I can knock off three or four very quickly. Interesting to see the actors and actress who were nearing the end of their careers like Claude Reins, Barry Fitzgerald and Joseph Cotten.

reply

What were your favorites from Season 1?

reply

Breakdown
The Long Shot
The Derelicts
Back for Christmas
The Hidden Thing

reply

I enjoy the Claude Rains episodes.

reply

I've always liked it. Where are you watching it?

reply

peacock

VPN?

reply

yes

reply

My binge has gotten interrupted by The Outer Limits (1963-65). Very much like The Twilight Zone.

reply

The "There is nothing wrong with your television set...Do not attempt to adjust the picture" intro is quite memorable.

Unfortunately I don't remember much else. Some time ago when Arlene Martel passed away I found out she was in one of the most well-known episodes, "Demon with a Glass Hand" (Season 2 Episode 5). i watched it and it is pretty good.

reply

The show is on Dailymotion - free, legal and commercial free. I do love the intro. I can't ever remember seeing this show on Canadian TV.

reply

I haven’t seen many of those but it had a successful 90s revival.
