I'm getting a root canal later this week. Should I be frightened?

I'm thinking of taking a pill beforehand like an ativan or halcion.

Nah, you'll be fine. I got one and it wasn't so bad. What sucks is how long it takes, but other than that your mouth will be numb. And you should definitely NOT take any drugs like that because it might interact with what they give you or at least talk to the dentist or your doctor before hand.

Did you have to get a crown on it afterwards?

All root canals require crowns, which are custom-made. You’ll get a plastic temporary crown the day of the surgery, and come back to be fit with your crown when the dentist receives it.

A lot of dentists do same-day crowns these days. Way more convenient and avoids the dreaded temporary crown stage.

Yeah, I don't think you or they would want to keep the tooth exposed. I actually had to get a minor surgery in my mouth before I got the root canal.

Was it "crown lengthening" the surgery you had done?
