I have a question

Looking at the covid19 map, things don't look good. My husband and I are still social distancing and wearing a mask. Are y'all still taking precautions?

reply

No.

reply

I'm so afraid of getting the Corona, that I can't meet people in the stairway outside our apartment without shrieking.
I have not been to even a grocery store since March.

reply

You need some kind of plan where you don’t have to get close to people in the stairway. There must be some other option.

reply

I normally just make sure that nobody is in the stairway before I enter it.
But a few times, one of the neighbors will surprise me and have me shriek out of panic.

reply

I've been tying sheets together and rappelling out the window.

A few times a downstairs neighbor would open their window, so I had to kick them in the face and tell them to get away from me. While shrieking of course.

Things just escalated big time here in Ireland. We're looking at another lockdown within the next week or two.

reply

Yeah same in UK, I think it will be another national lockdown soon.

reply

There's speculation that it will be later in the week. I say, do it know, get 6 weeks out of it and see how we are at the start of December.

reply

You think they'll close the schools again?

reply

We have our mid-term break at Halloween, the talk was, that that would be extended until the new year

reply

Hospitality will be screwed when boris gives his update on Monday. I feel really bad for Northern England 😐.

reply

Yes, I social distance and wear a mask.

reply

Same here.

reply

Same here.

reply

I social distance and wear a mask indoors. I do not wear one outdoors. Since late May my husband and I have gone out to eat a couple of times each week, but it has always outdoors with him. I have been inside an upscale restaurant 2X and 2X inside Chipolte's. I play trivia every Tuesday night - outdoors and when it gets cold and they either stop or go indoors, I won't play again until next year..

80% of my groceries are ordered online and then I pick them up but I go inside about every 10 days. I go early in the morning when there is hardly anyone around.

I got my hair colored at Ulta back in June and will get a haircut soon. I've been doing a lot of sewing and painting this summer an have shopped at JoAnn Fabrics and Hobby Lobby frequently, but again I go early and know how to avoid people.

I've had friends over for patio lunches a couple of times.

Bottom line - I will do as much as I can to be "safe" but I will not lock myself away and become a hermit. Mental health is as important as physical health.

I DO NOT support lockdowns.

reply

As a member of a risk group, I will support lock-downs.
I've been a hermit as you call it since March, because I'm scared of dying from the virus.
For me, I simply don't see how you can keep your mental health by putting your physical health at risk.
But I guess that you're not chronically ill like me in the first place.

reply

I am 70 and my husband is in a very high risk group. I certainly am not criticizing you for being extra careful.

BUT, I don't believe it is in the best interest of the majority of people and the economy to shut down businesses in order to keep safe the small % of people who are at very high risk. You need to be protected, but IMO, that can be accomplished by keeping business open and the economy going while providing for the people who need to stay isolated.

Fear is destructive and does not promote good health. I hope you have a good support group,(family and friends - who can help you through this.)

reply

I see what you mean. But I can't let go off my fear, because I would feel irresponsible if I did.
Since I live with my 74-year-old mother, I have to make sure that she's safe too.
However, most of the people who don't belong to a risk group try to live as normally as possible.
But I must say that wearing masks and following restrictions where it's needed is important.
My sister's two brothers-in-law have just moved to Montreal, Canada.
And it's clear that the rules are much stricter over there than what they are here in Sweden.
But I get why it has to be done, even if people have less freedom to do stuff and have fun.
After all, I'm afraid to even meet one of my neighbors in the stairway.
So I don't feel bad about other people having to be more careful than before too.

reply

I wish you and your mother the best and I agree we all need to careful and considerate of others.
Let's hope a vaccine is right around around the corner.

reply

Thank you!

reply

I'm in a high risk category myself as I just had chemo at the end of July. My t-cells are starting to come back, which is encouraging, but I still take precautions. I just wish everyone else did.

I wish there was a way to make other people understand that wearing a mask isn't to protect yourself, it's to protect others around you. Hand washing will do more to protect you. It's so frustrating when we actually have a mask in public place by-law, and people still won't do it because it "infringes on their rights." What??? I do not understand this. I'd love to see a contractor protesting construction codes because they infringe on their rights. I thought as a society that we have unwritten etiquette that states that we shouldn't needlessly harm each other.

The thing is, if everyone took the same precautions and took it seriously, we could keep the spread to a minimum and not have to lock everything down. But looks like that's going to happen world wide again because people value their "freedoms" more.

reply

It's not something difficult or expensive. These are simple things. The CDC boss said he considered masks better than a vaccine.

reply

You have all of my admiration, best wishes and respect for your recovery and I completely agree, just out of respect everyone should be taking any and all precautions at the moment

I am very fond of you and I wish you ALL the best

Wow, it's humbling to remember being pissed off about a recent plumbing issue when good people are going through really heavy stuff and NOT bitching and moaning about it

Much love sslssg

reply

I appreciate you Shogie! and I thank you for the well wishes.

I also think that it's okay to get pissed off at plumbing issues, no matter what other people go through. Just as long as you aren't complaining like moviebuff. 🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣

reply

Yes but the China virus is here to stay until we have some kind of vaccine.

reply

"China virus"

Donald Trump, is that you?

reply

No, but what's wrong with calling it the China virus?

reply

While it's not technically wrong, but calling it the Chinese Virus is Trump playing the blame game to redirect attention from his administration’s own ineptitude in dealing with the virus.

reply

BS. And this will get political, so I suggest if you want to continue in this vein, we take this conservation to the political board where it belongs.

reply

Unbelievable. Despite all the good Trump did, you parrot the talking point that he did nothing. How sad is that? While Biden, the ultimate idiot, complained the travel ban was xenophobic. Go back and watch it. The Dems fought Trump every step of the way. If you can tell me what he did that was wrong, please do so. The only thing he is guilty of being is optimistic! But Dems call that lying. I really hate Dems at this point. They are filled with the most vile things.

reply

Lol, I guess Trump is also responsible for the "second wave" in Europe?

reply

I have heard from many folks, they aren't taking the vaccine, I believe people are not taking it because they feel it was done to fast.

reply

The vaccines are going through all of the tests that the ones that take years go through. The only thing we don't know if there are long term side effects, but we also don't know if there are long term side effects to having covid, so I will take my "chances" with a vaccine and hopefully be able to get back to a normal life. If 10 years from now I have side effects, that is better than getting covid and dying now.

reply

I wish I could just get the vaccine NOW! Then I could be a bit less scared.

Yes, for the most part... I got a call from a "friend" who asked if he could borrow 75 cents, and walked 45 mins one way! I was reading a book, but he wanted cigarettes (essentials?), and I thought "Why not, it'll kill time, maybe chat for a few minutes".. I told him to wear a mask, and told him to call me when he was 2-3 minutes away. He says he couldn't wear a mask because his glasses kept fogging up. He was over about 20 minutes, sitting on my porch steps (why would he need his glasses?) while I was about 6 feet away, sitting on my car, but even I took off the mask a few times (and would put it back on) because it was annoying.

Today I had a sore throat, despite not saying a word yesterday. In hindsight, I wish I would have just said no, especially for 75 cents.. The guy usually doesn't answer my phone calls/texts, despite me answering his. But, he's the only one on Earth I can REALLY talk music with, so I just put up with it.... I won't do this again. I only leave my house to get food, and I try to prolong it as much as possible. But even there, people walk in with a mask, and then lower it, but I'm not going to get in their face and catch COVID. How ironic would that be?!

If I get sick, I'll be SO pissed. Every time I "survive" seeing people, I keep telling myself "NO MORE!"..... In March/April, I came back from the same supermarket, and the next day, I felt sick.. Really bad for a week (fatigue, muscle aches) and then for two months, to a lesser extent until the warm weather came out. Also, one day in May I went to the gas station (since the closest party store was closed down) with my mask on to get a few things, and there was this idiot standing by the door, who sneezed TWICE, and I had to go through it to leave... Sure enough, I felt like shit pretty quickly.

I'm definitely very paranoid about getting this, because I never ever go to the doctors, or hospitals (where #1 cause of death is sepsis), and I hate suffering, even a flu.

reply

I went for a 4 mile hike on the Appalachian Trail yesterday...deep in the woods there was no need for a mask but the several hikers I encountered were masked when I came upon them...people seem a bit frightened but generally polite just now

No stores will let you in so yes, nearly everyone wears a mask

reply

Your hike sounds great - are the leaves changing in your area? Ours are spotty.

reply

Yes, lots of orange, yellow and red...it's gorgeous

reply

In our neck of the woods, some trees have become bare already.

reply

I have visited Stockholm, but that was in June. Despite it being summer, it was cold, grey, and damp.

reply

Sweden is very green in June (unless it happens to be a very rainy summer).
I have to wonder where you come from and compared it with.

reply

We were on a Baltic cruise and only had the one day there. We spent a good part of the day at the Vasa Museum.

reply

Nice! :)

reply

I'm.jealous. We cancelled our trip to Sevier County Tennessee. This would have been our first trip during peak season. I hear from other folks the area is packed.

reply

Sorry to hear you missed it, Tennessee must be really glorious this time of year

There's always next year when stuff calms down
