StoneKeeper's Movie Guessing Game: I Recommend THIS Movie #1351 [Amada (1985) Winner: StoneKeeper]

StoneKeeper wins with Amada (1985). Considered one of the classics of Cuban cinema but sadly little-known outside the country, it's about a woman named Amada who is caught between worlds in the early 20th century. Stuck in an unhappy arranged marriage with a corrupt bourgeois politician, she's become tired of the conservative social norms of Cuban society and falls in love with her cousin Marcial, a young socialist revolutionary who wants to change Cuba for the better. Amada is attracted to Marcial's optimism, progressive ideals and can-do attitude, as opposed to the resigned and cynical attitude of her husband and everyone else around her who believe nothing can be changed. The story is a microcosm of Cuban society in the early 20th century leading up to the 1959 revolution.
