I've heard people who believe in open relationships say that the only way to make them work is to be open and honest from the beginning, that you cant really go from fidelity to polyamory because the relationship was built around the expectation of fidelity. Maybe that's true, I wouldnt know from personal experience.
My personal experience does include meeting a few couples who have a successful long-term open relationship. But many more "open" couples where one partner fucked around, and the other sat home and ground their teeth.
