Instead of Complaining About New Movies...

Why not just watch older movies... And not just "the classics" from the 1930-70s? There are a TON of great movies (and music) around just waiting to be seen. There are thousands of great ones for FREE on YouTube and many similar sites.

I do mostly watch older films 30's to early 60's usually. I have heaps of old films and find them far more enjoyable than newer ones.

Good advice (I have written down some of your recommendations). But I do so love complaining about modern movies.

Me too -- I bash the last 40 years all the time.. I think those who only watch new movies might think movies were always bad.. OR, if they do like them, they might REALLY love the older ones.

It's hard to have good conversations if 99% of people here haven't seen a movie one of us mentions.

I hope you enjoy whatever you see. Please let me know when/if you do.. I'd also be happy to answer any questions if you're trying to narrow the list.

Yes, complaining about the movies is half the fun.

Completely agree.

Sometimes I watch really old ones and then go. “ ooh that’s where they got that from” even though the new ones have more cgi, education, and improved techniques. You cant beat those good old actors.

I was just looking at a list I have of around 175 of my favorite films and 9 of them are from after the year 2000.

aspects of older movies that newer movies often lack

subtlety, classy humour & wit, exchanges between well-educated well-spoken adults

the fact is, the older movies were often written by and for a cultural elite - which has its own appeal.

the look & feel of 30s-50s movies, starting with art deco design influences, has always captivated me.
the dramatic transition from the somewhat amateurish 20s to the stylized 30s was breath-taking.
