Who are the best to have ever acted/written/directed their own films?

Charles Chaplin
Sylvester Stallone
Woody Allen
George Clooney

(Can't be cameos / Co-writer yes)

Mel Gibson.

Nope. He's a good actor and a wonderful director, but he either directs or acts. And he doesn't write his movies. Clint Easwood is another amazing actor+director, but he doesn't write his movies neither.

Dany Boon, the director of Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis. He has some good comedies where he's the main actor, writer and director.

Orson was genius. Repeated his work with numerous outstanding films.. would be the movie snobs choice.

However I have a generational bias, I watched Rocky again not long ago and am always impressed with the emotional strength of this movie. Stallone's acting is top notch, the script is a A+, and the directing impressive.

He would have really cemented his place in movie lore if he died soon after it's release, unfortunately he continued to produce mostly mediocre work after Rocky.

He did not direct the first one though... he did write/direct Rocky Balboa, which is my favorite after the original.

He also did a great job with Rambo 4.
