When was the last time you saw a dentist? What procedure?

I had a cleaning done about a month ago. They changed some things due to covid-19; it was an interesting visit. I only ever get cleanings. The only procedure I've ever had was one filling when I was 21. That's it. My wisdom teeth are still intact and non-impacted so dentist decided to leave them.

You’re lucky

Indeed and I'm 31. I was upset he did the filling in silver though. Because it sticks out like an eye-sore compared to the rest of my mouth.

reply

I'm surprised I don't have more cavities though because my diet was awful when I was young. Lots of sugar and soda.

reply

2016. Two fillings.

reply

Last year. A bone graft for an implant, than the implant. It sucked

Better than a bridge.

Probably 10 years ago or something. I got a little concerned about some spots, but it turns out my teeth only needed a good cleaning. I have no fillings yet. I've only had 4 molars removed when I got braces to make room for my wisdom teeth.

In May for a routine cleaning. They handed out masks for the waiting room. The procedure wasn't all that different, the hygenist would have been masked anyway. They say:

*Our office will communicate with you before your appointment to ask screening questions. You’ll be asked those same questions again when you arrive for your appointment
*We have hand sanitizer that we will ask you to use when you enter the office. There will be hand sanitizer available throughout the office, which you may use as needed.
*You may see that our reception area will no longer offer magazines or other difficult-to-clean items.
*Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing between patients. That might mean that you are offered fewer options for scheduling your appointment.
*We will do our best to allow greater time between patients to reduce waiting times for you, as well as to reduce the number of patients in the reception area. We may also be asking you to wait in your car when necessary, so that we can complete proper cleaning.

Dentist, pointy thing, dink, dink, dink, dink, all good; hygienist, polish, spit and done.

An extraction. Unfortunately the roots of my mutant teeth end in a round ball of bone making extractions difficult. Eventually the dentist gave up trying to pull it out and went for the scalpel. After getting home I spent the next four hours spitting blood into the basin and ended up clogging it. Thereafter followed by dry socket for a few weeks until it finally healed over. Still it only cost me $500 for the privilege and the wound didn't get infected so I guess I shouldn't complain.

Why did the tooth have to be pulled? Was it causing pain?

A relative keeps getting teeth pulled, but says he was not in pain previously.

reply

After breaking twice the tooth was beyond resurrection for a third time so it had to go.

reply

Ohhh. Dry socket is nasty. Worst than tooth pain itself. Did you get an implant?

reply

No just the extraction. Down to 24 from the original 32 now.
