Forgot about That Cold Day in the Park, that's on my list! Will have to check out those French ones.

reply

it's a good movie with an interesting story. Do you know any similar ones?

There is a lot of non-french movies, or did you single them out because you prefer French Cinema?

reply

Yes, Sandy Dennis is one of my faves; I've got her autograph. Anyway I just meant all those foreign ones you listed I haven't seen yet. Yes, I'm into French New Wave, but the whole '60s era in general.

reply

Very cool. I'm very hit-or-miss with the French new wave of the 1960s.. I loved 400 blows but couldn't stand breathless. Do you have any recommendations for me?

If I had to pick a favorite French movie in general I would go with la grande illusion

reply

Well three of my faves are Contempt (Le mépris) 1963:

But it's by Godard, same as Breathless. Another great one is
Sundays and Cybèle (Les dimanches de Ville d'Avray) 1962 with Hardy Kruger.

And of course A Man and a Woman (Un homme et une femme) 1966

Les mepris is my favorite movie by godard, but I like Sundays with sybele even more. Maybe it was because of the unorthodox relationship which usually make for good movies Allah Harold and Maude.. I've seen quite a few, so I try to mention what I like and don't like an effort to get more recommendations from people.

The most recent godard I saw was the la your va burn with Jane Fonda... I never hear anyone mention his work from the last 45 years even though he's still making movies.

Some of my favorite documentaries are French. Place de la republique, le joli Mai, Chronicles of a summer which I think was in French.
