Name a dish you think people haven't heard of...

Country...Morocco

Dish...Chicken Bastilla

I've only had it at a restaurant in Portland Oregon and I go there every time I visit..because its so good.

reply

Given it is mostly American's here I will say Damper. A type of Australian bread.

reply

I'm sure people on this board have heard of it, but for the unfamiliar, Bangers and Mash can conjure some curious images.

reply

that looks frickin delicious

reply

I will also add Bunny Chow from South Africa.

reply

I've had bunny chow in Durban.

reply

Me too! It's nice to have things in the place where they originate. We have a place here that sells Bunny Chow, and it's very different.

reply

Never seen it anywhere else before. Was the only time I tried it.

reply

We have quite a big South African population here. There are several places I can get biltong too.

reply

I can only find crappy supermarket versions. I miss the real thing. Wet and spicy.

reply

We make a really good one at home. That way I don't have to be disappointed. :)

reply

I've thought about making my own but would have to find a bitcher to do the right cuts for it, i guess.

City: Chicago, USA

Dish: Pizza Puff (A fried pastry with a pizza filling)

reply

A lifelong pizza lover, I never heard of the pizza puff until a couple of years ago at a local Reno Restaurant opened by a Chicago native.

reply

Shakshuka...

It's like bolognese sauce with sunny side up eggs.

reply

I make it once every couple months. It's delicious. Shakshuka for my babushka!

reply

Haha... it's Golabki for my babushka!

reply

That sounds awesome.

reply

It is. Try it. It's easy to make.

reply

I've heard of it before!

reply

What you heard was probably "suck sooker" which is... different thing altogether.

Country... Finland

Dish... Sauteed Raindeer

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sautéed_reindeer

It's simply delicious. Once in a while I prepare it (beef instead of raindeer). I let the beef and the onions slowly steam in beer until it reduces (with a bit of flour, so it gets thick) and then serve it with mashed potatoes. Jam is optional, it's gonna be delicious with or without it.

reply

It's raining deer in Finland!

reply

Hallellujaaaaaah!!! 🎵🎵🎵

Country...Thailand

jing reed
maeng sading
malaeng da na
mang kood ji
rod duan
dakataan

TBH, these are all snacks.

reply

I haven't heard of anything but malaeng da na...which I tried. I still don't know how I feel about it.
