Painful feeling after eating a lot at the buffet

Back when I used to go to buffets I would occasionally get a painful feeling in my stomach after eating a lot.

Are you familiar with this painful feeling?

reply

what did you eat?

reply

A lot of stuff like Prime Rib, mashed potatoes, fajitas, and sausages. I think the soda was the culprit....

were you social distancing?

reply

This was before COVID.

reply

Social distancing on a buffet is useless. All the food will be covered with sprays of saliva (and probably virus) anyway.

very true

Shit. Couldn't you have just stopped at one decent meat. Lol. This is why I detest buffets. They are gross. Decent tasting food but all filled with saturated fats, sugars, carbs, cholesterol etc. Except for the little section with salads or fruit that people fool themselves is healthy until they dump bacon bits and croutons on them AFTER....they have had their prime rib, French fries and chicken wings.lol. Than it's on to the chocolate fountain, pudding, ice cream and cookies.

Seriously most people will overeat at these places and it's mostly "bad for you" food. Almost everyone who frequents them are a motley crew of out of shape people. Which is really sad.

I use to go reluctantly with my two friends. I would eat very sparingly. Since I eat mostly fruits and vegetables with the occasional chicken. They would pile their plates. One of them got food poisoning the last time we went.(most likely a stomach bug from another customer) We no longer go there. It's been almost 2 years now.

Having that many people touch the utensils and than never seeing anyone wash their hands before or after plating their food...its not a good thing. I have a feeling many buffets may not survive the pandemic.

Food poisoning. When did you eat and when did you feel sick? How long was the food possibly sitting there, with bacteria growing on it?

I ate in buffets during evenings (before COVID came to the U.S.) It was probably sitting there for a while I guess. I got the pain after getting full.

But I adhere to the theory that I just ate and drank too much.

That is the #1 RULE of buffet eating: Get your money's worth!

If it was food poisoning, you'd probably vomit after up to 10 hours.

We used to call it 'bloated bliss'.
