Have you ever had a doctor not give you much attention or be hasty/half assed in his treatment of you?

I recently went to get my heel examined after injuring it kayaking, and the doctor was very nice and seemed thorough but it all went so quickly it was over before I knew it and it wasn’t until I got home that I realized I had several unanswered questions.

I realize they see a lot of patients and have learned to be “efficient,” however it seems that sometimes they can be aloof or even careless in their haste and leave you without closure or a definitive course of treatment. He basically ordered an X-ray, got the same day results and said “no fracture, begin use of ankle again as you feel comfortable.”

Here I am, a week later and it’s minimally improved. I have mostly stayed off of it, hobbling back and forth between the bathroom and kitchen and only left the house twice, once to get groceries the other to get medicine.

Gonna try to get in touch tomorrow to see what I need to do, hope I don’t need an MRI.

They don't ( privately ) call it the Hypocritic Oath for nothing.

How’s it doing now? Any better?

reply

It’s a little better, not as much as I’d hoped so doc ordered an MRI Tuesday. Hopefully hear back soon.

reply

I hope the MRI looks good and you are fully recovered soon.

I once had a doctor who was part of a service with several other doctors. He ran a weight-loss clinic out of the service. He was constantly trying to get me to enroll (Yes I'm overweight) even though I declined. After a while I got tired of his badgering and stopped going and found a new doctor. I later found out he had been funneling a lot of patients into the clinic even ones who had no need. I suspect the $30/week co-pay was an incentive. He was eventually asked to leave the service.

This seems to be standard procedure in the dental field. The major part of a check-up is spent with the hygienist who does all the x-rays and cleaning. The actual dentist makes a cameo appearance at the end of the session.

They aren't wizards. They don't have a crystal ball. They observe evidence and listen to symptoms described. After looking at a Xray and advising you based on evidence, what more did you want? Exact dates of relief?

I have had visits that I felt were info-light (always remembering some questions I didn't ask or didn't get answered until I get HOME!) and that sucks but people expect doctors to cast Cure Serious Wounds on them.

reply

No I don’t expect them to be miracle workers but I felt he was a bit hasty
