Would You Go Back or Forward in Time?

If you had a time machine, could only use it one time and would have to stay there? How far and why?

At first, I thought it would be nice to go back and see my relatives in their youth, but I'd probably freak them out, therefore I'd choose forward by 200 years for the technology, innovations, longer lifespan and a weekend on Mars.

having to stay there definitely changes my answer.

because if i could come back or jump around, i'd definitely want to go back 100k or 200k or a million years and see what our ancestors were like.

and then skip back a little further to see a dinosaur or a land-whale.

but since we have to stay, my answer would be none of the above. i'd stick right here.

because the past is worse in all sorts of ways, and there's no guarantee that the future will be great.

I believe I would go forward a week or so and get whatever Powerball numbers have the largest jackpot.

reply

That only helps if you can come back.

reply

I guess in the case of not being able to come back, I would just go back a couple weeks, bringing the winning numbers with me to play the lottery back then. Either way, I'm rich. RICH, I TELLS YA!

reply

Great Scott Keelai!

reply

when i fantasize, which might reflect a lack of imagination on my part,
i generally veer toward the distant past

one of my obsessions is visiting in the era if 10-7 million years ago,
to the hominid/chimp split, or earlier, to see the origins of bipedalism.

this is sort of the last great mystery in paleoanthropology.

reply

Neither, I'm very comfortable right here

reply

probably around 1950
world seems to get worse every year as population increases
where i live now would be great in 1950

reply

Where I currently live would have been the bush (completely rural) back in 1950. Would have been nice. It is still is semi rural now.

reply

I'd go back to 1914 and save Archduke Ferdinand thereby preventing WW1 & WW2.

reply

Would be interesting, it for one would create a very different Adolf Hitler, one who may have just been a nobody. Also would have kept Austria Hungary intact a little longer as well as the British Empire.

reply

I mean WW1 may have happened anyway, but this was the trigger. But without WW1 there would be no WW2, but then again if you can change a timeline, the original timeline still exists anyway in the many world theory. My 2nd choice would be going to 1907 to convince the Vienna art school to accept Hitler; that may have kept him out of trouble.

reply

Since this is fantasy I think it would be fun to go back in time and influence some great mind or leader of the era. Let them know of future events. Yes, I would be completely unethical about it all. In fact I might just go into the future and come back with a sports almanac.
