Jon Hamm to Star in ‘Fletch’ Reboot at Miramax

I look forward to it but I really want to see him play Peter Gunn.

Interesting. I'm a fan of the Fletch novels.

Kevin Smith was trying to get a Fletch movie made for many years. Miramax objected to Jason Lee, Smith's choice for the lead role. I think Lee would have done well portraying Fletch. Smith is very uneven as a director, with more bad efforts than good at this point, but maybe Fletch would have been the sweet spot for him. Now we'll never know.

Could be good. He'll be a different sort of Fletch than Chevy, but I think he's capable of pulling it off.

Sounds pretty interesting. I would watch it.

I can see this going the way of Popeye and Lone Ranger reboots, a film based on a character that would be largely unknown to younger audiences and mostly forgotten by older audiences. I was a kid when the Chevy Chase film came out and Chase alone was enough to put me off seeing it.
