I usually enjoy a film more the second time I watch it.

Or the third time I watch it, the first time I am too focused on the story.

Anyone else have this?

Funny you mention it...sans Pulp Fiction, but like of lot of Tarantino, maybe others experience this as well, but seeing “Once upon a time...” at the theater left me feeling like it was good, but other than the ending, I was a bit underwhelmed....now that it’s been on one of my premium channels the past few months, there are certain scenes I find that are just downright outstanding...I’m sure there are other movies like this, but that one immediately came to mind for me...

Didn’t feel that way about PF, liked that one the first time I watched it, one of my faves...

I had that with the hateful eight, didn't like it that much first time I watched it, but it got a little better everytime time I saw it.

Still haven’t got to that one, and I’m discouraged by what I hear, even from the QT faithful....I’ll get to it eventually....

I've got that feeling (and hence havent watched) with "Once upon a time in hollywood" it sounds meandering and slow , from the reviews and comments.

Hateful 8 however , did hold my attention and entertain , despite being about 3 hours long.

I WOULD COUNT MYSELF AMONGST THE QT FAITHFUL...I LIKED HATEFUL EIGHT A LOT...GRITTY AND FUNNY...BASTERDS IS MY LEAST FAVORITE OF THE MANS WORK...I STILL LIKE IT THOUGH.🙂

The Hateful EIght didn't call for a second watch for me to really appreciate it, it simply tkok a little time yo digest and think about it. Of course, it was better and better with each consecutive watch though. Now, I absolutely love this movie.

Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood is an EXCELLENT example. I feel like it's the kind of movie in which you can't really analyze the beauty of the whole thing the first time around. The first time you are waiting and wonder what's going to happen and what's going on. You don't take the time to really understand the meaning of the dialogues or what's really going on in each scenes.

The first time I felt it dragged on a little bit, the second time I was amazed by it and didn't even care about the running time. The movie is way deeper than what what we see on the surface.

I find Wes Anderson movies get much better after multiple viewings.

I gotta try that...I really like Tenenbaums, but wasn’t crazy about Budapest Hotel, other than the Saoirse Ronan scenes....

only with some directors -- Mann and Nolan for me.

I agree. On the first viewing I focus on the story, too. On the second, third, or whatever viewing I start to see more details, and often notice plot holes, glitches, continuity errors, or whatever. It doesn't mean I don't like a movie/show, though. It's simply an observation, that's all.

My dad used to look for mistakes and plot holes in just about anything he watched, and maybe I got my habit from him. The older he got, the more he did it. I always wondered if these thoughts detracted from his enjoyment of the film or show. Or maybe he saw it as a challenge??

Depends on the movie, sometimes I do, sometimes I'm more like "okay I don't get why I enjoyed the first time". But there are many movies that the more I watch them, the more I like them.

Tarantino's movies tend to have this effect on me. This or they simply require some time to rethink them.

Breaking Bad had this effect, and I also change my mind about the characters drastically.

Sure you might get more details , and appreciate little subtleties you missed the first time on a second viewing,

but isnt the fact that you know the outcome a MASSIVE downer?
Surely that outweighs seeing a few extra details?

I'm not saying a movie isnt worth watching twice, but the 2nd run is rarely *actually better* than the first surely?

I love film. I'm sure we all do or we wouldn't be here. You never forget that first time watching a movie. That makes an imprint on you, for good or bad. And every time you watch the movie after adds layers. It's a very unique thing. I've only seen a handful of movies that were only good the first time, but they do exist.

i re-watch movies all the time, & will often go to the theatre 2 or 3 times if it's a film i liked. but i can't really say i like it more. i will appreciate certain scenes more, be on the lookout for details i glossed over, all that kind of stuff.

but i don't think i can say i ever enjoy it more, because i don't think you can compare the pleasure of being surprised, the novel experience of seeing something for the first time.

hearing a joke a 2nd time might make you appreciate how clever it is more, but you probably won't laugh as hard.
