The transporter!!! I want to spend my weekends in New Zealand and Iceland, and be able to pop back home a couple of times a day to feed the cats!

And having pizzas delivered hot out of the oven...

reply

I would never have the balls to use one, how can a person PROVE that he/she isn't a copy?

reply

And what happens to the original that get disintegrated?

reply

Look, if I get to spend my lunch hour grabbing some ramen in Tokyo or taking my bag lunch to pop into Stonehenge, because I have a transporter, I wouldnt care if I were actually a copy.

And if I become a copy, could I pre-order a thinner version of me?

reply

sex robots who can pass the turing test, in every respect.

reply

It would be entertaining to watch women lose their perceived leverage! ;)

reply

I was gonna say Time Machine, but Sex Robots, YEAH!

reply

I vote this

reply

If they are really good, it could mean the end of the human race.

reply

I'm probably fine with the idea of the end of the human race. Good riddance.

reply

the ultimate introversion, eh?

reply

For all the sci-fi cautionary tales out there about the dangers of man being replaced by machines, sex robots could actually do a lot of good for society. Imagine how many less unwanted pregnancies, STDs, adulteries, and even rapes/murders that can be prevented if every man and woman can afford to have a mechanical sex slave that looks and acts however they want.

reply

where i would go with this, if i was writing the script, would be a population crash, due to the mass preponderance of humans bonding with their robots, instead of finding a mate

and you could go on from there, with the off-sourcing of child-getting & rearing to the machines, according to the policies determined as optimal by.... correct, the machines.

reply

That could be interesting, but I feel like the problem could be largely solved if the government were to just ask men to donate sperm. Even if the vast majority of men decided to sleep with their mechanical sex beings rather than their spouses or partners, I feel like there'd still be enough women who'd want to take on parenting, even if it means having to do it alone. Maybe in this future, child support benefits have skyrocketed off the roof as a result of this phenomena.

I think a story about a future where every married couple has sex robots for each spouse could have tons of potential. It could be a pretty interesting examination of the true nature of love and what happens to couples when all the physical and emotional requirements every person requires, can be fulfilled with technology.

Some sort of mechanical device that you can wear underneath your pants to help old people or people with disabilities walk without using a cane or a walker.

reply

That was on one of the Alien films... wouldn't be surprised if they are working on that now.

reply

the robotics have pretty much been solved. i imagine the tricky part is control, depending on the extent of disability.

this is surely in the near-term future, at least for paras.

reply

I was thinking more of practicality being the issue. It could be heavy or bulky.

reply

would definitely need a stout battery pack.

as to the heaviness (mainly the power pack), it bears its own weight.

reply

Phasers. Inexhaustible and unbreakable. Now.

reply

A time machine. Then I could leave this screwed up, modern world and go back to a saner, more moral era.

reply

What time would you want to go to?

reply

a realtime two-way translator for any language
ok, you might have to download a language package

reply

In other words, the babel fish. That’s what I want, a babel fish: https://hitchhikers.fandom.com/wiki/Babel_Fish

reply

yes, that's the one.

reply

When I get mine, I'll grab one for you too.

reply

Cheap, small, light, non-nausea inducing VR/AR googles.

reply

Something to cure tinnitus. No cure.

reply

Oh damn, do you have tinnitus?
If so condolences, I hear that is brutal
Best wishes!

reply

It's annoying. Mine is mild but some people have very loud tinnitus. I don't want it to get worse.

reply

Take care of yourself, consult your Doctor, that's pretty serious
