movies you used to like but have since outgrown?

What are some movies you used to really enjoy that just don't appeal to you anymore, for whatever reason?

Usually, I find myself not liking movies I used to really dig, as a result of me having grown up a little, and having developed a bit more knowledge on cinema and a better understanding of the world as I've gotten older.

Here's some of mine:

Easy A
Forrest Gump
Avatar
When Harry Met Sally...
anything by Kevin Smith other than Clerks and Dogma

What's yours?

reply

I never cared for Dogma, it was just too stupid in my opinion, I assume Smith bought a yacht, a mint classic muscle car and a sweet Condo that year and needed to make some payments

I consider it his shittiest movie

reply

Same.

reply

Nothing against the guy, clerks was really good but his later stuff was 'less than'

reply

I had a lot of friends that just raved about Dogma. I had to sit through it more times than I wanted to, which was never.

reply

I watched it once...that was enough

reply

SMITH DOES WHAT SMITH DOES...YOU EITHER APPRECIATE THE STYLE OR YOU DO NOT...I DO...DOGMA AND ALL HIS FLICKS ARE GREAT BY ME.CLERKS,MALLRATS,CHASING AMY AND CLERKS 2 ARE ALL IN MY TOP 100 ALL TIME.

reply

Iv'e seen most of them
Clerks and Chasing Amy were the standouts for me

reply

✅...I really liked those two, Clerks an all time fave of mine....kinda gave up after dogma, came back for Red State, shoulda stayed away....what was that all about?....maybe I’m being too hard, it was interesting, the dialogue good in spots....unfortunate, seems like a swell guy...

reply

He does come off as fairly charming and humorous, but I only liked a couple of his films

Props to him for getting them all made👍

reply

Hell yeah, I ain’t hating....you know what I like to say: get some!

reply

He made millions and became nearly a household name everywhere...I do respect the guy for sure!

reply

For clerks alone, he’s always invited to a smoke session at my pad...and I gave up smoking bud a while back!

reply

LOL, been a long time for me too!

Invite me when you spark one up next time👍

reply

I cry uncle, uncle shogie....shyt is just too phenomenally high with THC now, don’t need to be any more loony than I am now...had to put it down bro...just occasional red wine and Pringles now, man...

reply

I get that, you're way better off

reply

I’m gonna go ahead and disagree with this statement. You can appreciate someone’s style without liking every movie they made.
I fell in love with Twin Peaks from the moment it aired. I appreciate Lynch’s style probably more than anyone’s. I don’t love every movie he’s made.
If you wanna get stoney with it (because I do on account of my stoneyness) you could say the same about anyone. I may think your style is pretty a’ight kowalski, you can be pretty damn funny, but that doesn’t mean I appreciate every word you say, know what I mean?

reply

I get that, froggy....smith’s friend Tarantino being a perfect example....love his style, but some of his flicks can feel like sensory overload....also homage overload, if you will...

reply

FAIR ENOUGH...EXCEPT...I SAID YOU EITHER LIKE HIS STYLE OR YOU DONT...I NEVER MENTIONED ANYONE LIKING EVERYTHING OR WHAT THAT WOULD MEAN.I SIMPLY LIKE EVERYTHING🙂

reply

It’s possible I was just being obstinate. I’m more in disagreement with the lack of trouble you’ve been causing around here lately. I think you need to work on that.🙂

reply

IM POLITE AND FRIENDLY KOWALSKI...MOD3 MADE IS VERY CLEAR VULGAR ASS KOWALSKI IS NOT WELCOME🙂

reply

Clerks was great, I didn't care for Mallrats or Dogma. Jay and Silent Bob was funny the first couple of times but then I lost interest.

reply

lol that's funny. I never considered his bills.

reply

Chris Rock was great but otherwise I agree.

A lot of B movies I could list. I would watch anything as a kid and if I liked it I could watch it hundreds of times. I tried to watch a few favorites as an adult and I just couldn’t get through it.

Eliminators (1986)
The Stuff (1985)
Basketcase (1982)
Masters of the Universe (1987)
Goulies (1984)

Crap load of ninja movies but I can’t remember their names.

reply

You mean American Ninja movies? Michael Dudikoff and David Bradley were my men at the time.

I loved R.O.T.O.R too.

reply

Yes! I watched all the ninja movies where the main character was a white guy. Lol

reply

I'm an Asian myself but I don't mind it.

reply

The Harry Potter movies. I still can't believe how much worse they are compared to the books. The books were far from perfect, but they are certainly better and more enchanting than the film adaptions.

reply

Prisoner of Azkban was awesome, though. It didn't follow the book to a T, but Alfonso made better changes to the story than most of the other scripts in the series. Having Harry fly off in the Firebolt he received from Sirius at the end, was a great way of signifying his arc of having moved beyond the demons of his past.

reply

Since I loved the book, I was bothered by all the unnecessary changes. The same thing goes for "Goblet of Fire".

reply

They feel so underwhelming now that i'm older.

reply

superhero/comic books

reply

Kevin Smith movies.

Other than that, nostalgia wins out with a lot of others that I was thinking of like Empire Records for example as I can still watch them, but yeah, I used to love Kevin Smith movies, and now I just can't.

reply

He tries too hard.

reply

Three Stooges shorts, loved them even into my 20s, but now only enjoy a few seconds of a clip.

reply

It has been a long time since I've watched a Three Stooges movie. Not sure if it's time to revisit them or not because I worry that they're not funny anymore. Same thing with Laurel & Hardy.

reply

i thought tusk was a classic

reply

Robocop 3. The idea of robot police vs robot samurai was super cool to my kid brain at the time. But today, meh.

reply

THEN NOT PETER WELLER FLIES...NOT TO MENTION WHACKING NANCY ALLEN FOR NO REASON.

reply

Haha in fact, The Matrix ending when Neo flies away reminded me a lot of Robocop 3. There's a similar janky feeling about how they fly lol.

reply

I NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT...BUT I CAN SEE IT NOW....LMAO.
