I hate video games.

I haven't played a single video game since I was a kid. Not one. This includes games like Angry Birds or something else found on a phone. I've seen my nieces and nephews play as well as my friends and this new generation of gaming reminds me why I stopped playing.

The objective of most games is to kill. Whether it's firing gun, Mario jumping on someone's head, Pac-Man eating a ghost or conjuring up a spell, the killing gets repetitive. You're then pretty much limited to sports and puzzle games.

Then there are the annoying bugs found throughout a game. This includes invisible walls, bad collision detection and broken seams. I also hate how you have to rely on the response of the controller to succeed. How many times do you press the button, but your gun didn't shoot? Bugs shouldn't affect me passing a game.

Then there's the bad voice acting on all games. I can't think of a single performance that I would put close to someone in movies or TV. And they're all part of some convoluted story.

Then there's the fans. But I won't get too much into that because that's a whole other topic. I'll just say that I don't think video games players are athletes.

Finally, doctors say that video games are the worst form of media for your attention span. Kids can't just sit down, watch a movie and focus on a story anymore, they need to be doing something with their constantly and need something that they can control at their own pace.

I hate video games. I hate 'em, I hate 'em, I hate 'em.

I went from probably 2002 to 2015 or so without playing any new games. I just didn't like anything after the year 2000. In 2016 I bought an Xbox One and I played several games that I like. I also got back into PC gaming about 2 years ago and bought several games on Steam. There are some games from back in the day that I just don't like anymore ( the Resident Evil series comes to mind) but there are other franchises that I've come to enjoy in recent years, like Red Dead Redemption or Mass Effect.

Sounds like you have your game playing under control where it doesn't affect your life.

You know, I think this post has actually had an effect on me. I haven't really wanted to play any video games the last few days. I was about 8 total hours into Red Dead Redemption and now I feel like I've played enough. I'm not the kind of guy who plays more than an hour or so at a time, but even now I feel like that time is wasted.

I used to be addicted to Warcraft 2 in the late 90’s. Not the World of Warcraft, but the builder strategy game and I was hooked. I’m not sure if they even make games like that one anymore but there’s no way I could get back into that.

An hour a day seems reasonable. Sometimes you even need to fill in a certain time of the day because there is nothing to do. But being able to limit yourself and being fine with it is good for the mind.

I know people who loved watching movies more than anything, but now their video game use has increased to about 5 or 6 hours a day and they no longer watch movies anymore because they're unable to focus for that long.

I enjoy Civilization and Planet Coaster, which are nothing like how you described video games.

i was a bit of an arcade addict in my late teens & early twenties. i think i recognized that weakness in me enough to realize i'd be best off never buying a console or a serious gaming laptop, because i'd probably sink into a gaming pit and never come out.

but i still occasionally love wasting time away on a few simple racing/shooting games on my phone and laptop. and one day, when i seriously retire (not my current sort of working/sort of semi-retired state), i am absolutely going to buy a decent tv and a console and play the rest of my days away.

At that point, you've already developed a decent attention span where it won't affect you negatively.

I play video games from time to time. Recently, my favorite game is https://iss-sim.spacex.com/
You may try it- no killing unless you are suicidal.

Eh, videogames have as many genres as there are movies. You may not like some but I doubt there wouldn't be a single videogame you wouldn't like if you tried them all. Modern games are more like interactive movies these days with a lot of game budget going to actors, composers and directors so pretty soon I am expecting to just see a 2 to 3 hour long interactive movies posing as videogames.

I'm not saying there won't be one that I like, I just done care that there is one because I don't care for video games.

4th of July I played the updated Playstation 4 version of these two 90s games. Still just as fun as I remember.

I have played GTA Vice City on my PC quite a few times and I think the game is a masterpiece. Played at 1280 X 1024 it looks beautiful, the characters are great and the voice acting is top notch, the radio stations from the music to the talkback are entertaining and the missions are challenging and interesting.

I also play Tiger Woods PGA Tour for PC and have the games from 2004 to 2008 to get more golf courses to play on. Plus there is a website of enthusiasts who create more golf courses that can be downloaded and added to the game.

I love GTA Vice City.

It's basically a mix of Miami Vice and Scarface (1983)

I don't know why Rock Star hasn't updated and reissued the game so the next generation of players can enjoy it.
