I'm having a great week

My husband and I went out to eat for the first time on Monday. My Tuesday night trivia is back. I had lunch with a friend yesterday. All activities were outdoors and my bottle of hand sanitizer is always with me. I always wear a mask indoors, but not outdoors and I do avoid crowds.

I got a pedicure last night - the first one since the last week in January.

Life isn't normal, but some of the activities I've missed during the last two months have returned.

reply

I always thought you were a dude. Glad you’re enjoying the new normal.

reply

LOL

reply

Enjoy😃
Still mostly locked down here and I can't find a garage open for a car inspection sticker just yet but the gov't is waiving that for now

reply

Is that for emissions? We used to have that in Ohio, but was discontinued years ago.

reply

Emissions and everything else (springs, safety features...)

My wife's Chevy is about 2 years old so I'm not concerned and the DMV sent a letter stating expired stickers would be overlooked until this lockdown is lifted

reply

It's weird how things vary depending on where you are. We're probably more locked down than most in England, but workshops and garages are all open, as they are deemed essential.

reply

The garages are closed but the Liquor stores are open everyday as they were deemed 'essential!'

At least the government got ONE thing right in all of this😂

reply

I’m on day 90 now, so have no concept of what the outside world looks like anymore.

reply

I'm locked in a bit less than that but your statue post the other day alerted me to the fact that they are damaging public works out there...really not cool of them

I should watch 'the news' more often but it's all too much for me!

reply

You know me, five minutes in the morning, five minutes in the evening, just to make sure we haven’t been invaded by space aliens.

As for defacing statues 🤦‍♂️

reply

No Aliens yet, just a strange virus, swarms of murder hornets and a homeless crisis looming...
So, just another day

The public statuary thing bugs me though
If a community wants some Confederate General So and So removed from the park at least let professionals do it and donate it to a museum...statues are hard to make and it just seems like raging vandalism to me

Just my 2 cents Amigo

reply

100% agree. Mob rule is not the right way.

reply

At The onset of the American revolution the first thing they did was knock down a statue of King George and make bullets out of it.

reply

That is ironic and true

I just feel like a legal process should be in place for this sort of thing today

Banning and smashing things we disapprove of is no answer...we have rules and too many people seem to think they are above them

What has become of discussion, debate and non-violent/angry exchange of ideas?

reply

Too many people were excluded from those discussions and debates for too long.

And the rules were written by? And they favor who?
Burn and smashing are cathartic and necessary sometimes. Now is that time.

reply

Love 'ya Laura, I really do but I disagree

Protests are fine, legal and All American but when rioting, looting and the destruction of businesses commences things have gotten out of hand

We cannot allow angry crowds to ruin our towns, we have a legal system for deciding these matters

reply

We don't have to do this. I love ya too Shogie ( lol - popped up Showgirls on my spell check)
I think everyone already knows where I stand - I want to be clear about that.

reply

Copy that sweetie

And what a coincidence, I worked my way through college as a showgirl!

Don't tell anyone though😜!

Exactly. Also most of those statues were only erected around the time of the Civil Rights Movement as a deliberate fuck-you to black people and a glorification of the Confederacy and the Ku Klux Klan as an explicit white-supremacist statement. History my ass. Tear them all down, smash them to bits.

It's funny, I haven't seen any of the people who condemn destruction of Confederate statues say anything about the right-wing Czech government's recent destruction of the statue in Prague of Marshal Konev, the Soviet general who led the liberation of Czechoslovakia from the Nazis. I've never seen any of these people condemn the defacing of monuments to the Red Army in Europe (there's one in Bulgaria that was vandalized not long ago).

It seems it's fine when right-wingers destroy monuments to revolutionaries and anti-fascists, but when progressives destroy right-wing and fascist monuments then it's a terrible crime and tragedy.

reply

Fuck yeah!

reply

Auto repair shops here, too are considered essential so they never had to close. Liquor stores are considered essential too, but I guess it sort of makes sense. Do we really want to deal with cranky folks who can't get their favorite libation? There's enough stress these days so why take away that form of relaxation?

reply

Excellent!

Every week is a great week!

reply

That’s fantastic. What kind of trivia ?

reply

General knowledge. We play in teams - every Tuesday night at a local pub - three games, seven questions each.

1st win - candy bars + 10% off our bill.
2nd win by the same team - free appetizers
3rd win by the same team - free dinner

reply

That sounds like fun ! The one by my house does music theme trivia nights . Right up my ally. For the first couple rounds you write the answers down, and he marks them between rounds . I love bar trivia .

reply

We continued playing on Zoom and Facebook during the weeks the bars were closed. They just opened up outside two weeks ago - not sure what will happen in the fall when outside isn't possible.

reply

Arizona back to total lockdown. Hot spot on the planet right now for Covid.
And they said the heat would kill it. Bah!

reply

What a surprise. But I must say- I dont know anyone who is sick with this thing - in NY or AZ.

reply

are you really going back to lockdown?

reply

Omg dude. Basically a police state.

reply

Did Ontario actually lockdown? We didn't in Alberta, but a lot of places were closed. Now that we are reopening it's like people are pretending that the virus doesn't exist and we are having a nice outbreak.

reply

all non essential businesses were closed. we are slowly reopening.

reply

I guess that's what we had here, but I guess to other places it seemed not as strict. Like liquor stores were still open for delivery and curb side pickup, where I know other places it was like grocery stores and that was it.

reply

Nice to hear! I was finally able to get my hair cut last week, which was a relief. Mrs Neighbor was even more excited because she got her black roots taken care of. She's been whining about those for weeks now, so I'm happy for her.

reply

I'm not sure if I'm up to having my hair colored - that's about 2 hours inside. I get mine done at Ulta and not sure if they have even opened the salon up for that.

reply

Nice! Glad to hear it :)

reply

I went and had Sushi last weekend and will be watching Jaws in a theater. Very nice.

reply

OMG - I would kill for some sushi.

reply

It was amazing. There’s a place in Toledo, Ohio called Spicy Tuna I had discovered and tried right before the shutdown. It was nice. I had the same server so it was nice to see her job remained intact.

reply

I think I'll pick up some tomorrow night for dinner. My husband doesn't care for it so he will have to eat something else.
