Disappointed 😷

I ventured out to the grocery store today. I needed milk (can't stand to be without it) so I decided to make a quick run to grab a gallon of it. Folks were out as if everything was back to normal. The store wasn't as busy as I expected it to be, but I don't usually go there on Saturdays, so who knows?

I'd describe it as busy, but not packed. I was disappointed to see so many folks who were not wearing face masks. Really? People can't be bothered to do this one simple thing out of consideration for those around them?? My guesstimate is that maybe 40% were wearing masks.

No, I'm not scared. But I am being cautious and showing consideration for others.

reply

That's unfortunate. Its a statewide requirement to wear a mask here. No mask, no entry. I really don't see it as an inconvenience.

reply

I don't either. If wearing a mask is what it takes to get us back out in the world, what's the big deal??

reply

A mask was never a requirement over here, only the (how many?) feet distance rule and hardly anyone seems to care about that anymore. Seems like things will be back to normal soon, people are just fed up.

reply

I feel that masks and distance are the best protocol. Wearing a mask is annoying, but it's a small price to pay for opening things up again.

reply

The corona virus is pretty much gone here, even though very few people wore masks. I just feel none of these rules had much effect.🤷‍♀️

reply

I think the "rules" helped slow the spread here so as to not overwhelm medical facilities. But I also think that because the virus was slowed, some folks have taken that to mean that things are not that bad. What they don't seem to recognize is that things aren't as bad as they could have been BECAUSE of folks following the rules. I'll continue to follow them and listen to the experts.

There is no way I want to get the virus. There's too much we don't know about it, especially the long-term effects on people who have had it. If you get it, there are no guarantees you will get a mild case, so yes, I'm being cautious.

reply

Well, I've got to disagree with you. Just look at Sweden, where things aren't worse than anywhere else.

reply

I've been watching events in Sweden and do believe they had the right approach, but I found it interesting that even with the way they handled the virus it appears only about 10% of the population has become infected and 50%-80% is needed for herd immunity.

So this thing will either die out on it's own, (which I think is improbable), or a lot more people need to catch it. What we really need the most are more effective therapeutics that prevent people from reaching the critical stage and l haven't heard much about that lately.

Short of a vaccine, that would be the biggest game changer for me.

reply

I thought they believed a lot more people have had corona, but they just weren't aware of it?

reply

I wear a mask now in the shops and it's super dorky, I only wear it for other people's comfort...I have zero concern about this current business

I Fear nothing (except sharks and heights, but that's fairly understandable, sharks and heights are very scary)

reply

This is what I believe - it's for others, not me.

reply

I'm tired of it. Considering that covid's less contagious than whatever flu is going around and we don't lose our colon contents over that, then I'm done with masks. But my situation is probably different from most.

reply

But if you are in a store you must wear a mask...or?
