When Turkey was just a chick

When Hungary wasn't even peckish

1950. I used to think I am the oldest one here, but I believe there are a few older.

reply

Damn I thought you guys were all much younger. I was born in ´84.

reply

Not fair! Not fair at all! I’m older than all of you, dammit! 😡 My husband at this very moment is dying in a Hospice facility.😔

reply

I'm so sorry, kspkap.

reply

Thank you. I just returned from checking on him again, but they have him so heavily dosed with morphine (20 mil) it was a short visit. The grandkids drove up from Florida yesterday to MS, but there wasn’t much of a visit earlier.

reply

It's not fair. Sending love and courage vibrations your way.

reply

very sad indeed.

reply

Thanks, hownos. 😔 It’s definitely a life changing moment to see someone you’ve been married to for 58 years fade away.

reply

So sorry to hear this, KissKap. Whether you want the crown or not, I think you're the matriarch of MC. Best wishes during this difficult time.

reply

Thanks Glen E, I appreciate your sentiments. I tend to agree with you about being the matriarch of MC. It appears I am the oldest...oh dear...77 in July! 😱

reply

Believe me, I understand the feeling - something thrust upon you whether you like it or not. I'm the matriarch of my family - something I never thought I'd be, but life doesn't always work out the way we think it will. I never imagined that my older (only) sister would pass away at the young age of 39, but one has to deal with whatever life throws at us.

reply

I can relate to this. I'm the oldest of four sons in my family. My closest brother also passed away at the age of 39, on his daughter's 6th birthday. It was one of the hardest deaths I've ever dealt with. My two youngest siblings passed away unexpectedly almost exactly two months to the day apart the same year dewey did. In my wildest imagination, I never thought I would outlive all of my younger brothers. Until now, kap has been the only one to know this.

reply

Oh my stars! I'm so sorry to hear this! His passing away on his daughter's birthday is awful! And losing your brothers in such a short time - I can only imagine how painful that has been. My sister passed away on my (now ex) husband's birthday. Totally unexpected. It almost destroyed my dad.

reply

You're in my thoughts as well, kap. Haven't we had some conversations and didn't we always know that this time was inevitable?

As far as being the oldest, I still think you're remarkably lucid and articulate.

reply

Thank you db! I appreciate your kindness. Happy to hear from you.

“...didn't we always know that this time was inevitable?

But, I didn’t think it would come so fast! Life is like a roll of toilet paper...the more you use the faster it goes.

Thanks for the compliment.

reply

Only older people can truly grasp how accurate that analogy is, kap.

reply

Very true! You understand me so very well. The tragedies you’ve had in your life puts everything into perspective for you.

I look at the terrorist rioters and think about their elderly relatives who no longer have a grocery store, a pharmacy, a shoe store, a clothing store within walking distance. Maybe some of the businesses were owned by their relatives who put food on the table. Very sad...

reply

I'm with you there also, kap. I've seen a few interviews with some of the small business owners whose life savings and livelihoods have been completely wiped out now. Some were at a point of just starting to bounce back somewhat from the pandemic. Also, a good number of them are black. It's just so insane and completely counterproductive.

Wishing you peace of mind and heart as much as it's possible for you at this time.

Mom will be 78 in August. By far my favorite person 😃
Dad's been gone 4 years next November.
Much love and prayers, Kissy.

”Mom will be 78 in August. By far my favorite person”

This makes me happy to read this! She apparently raised you right so enjoy your mom while you have her. Like me she is on that last short road of life.

Wasn’t it just yesterday I was wearing hot pants? Wasn’t it just yesterday I was wearing mini dresses causing me to bend my knees to drink from the water fountain? Going up an escalator in a dept store was a trip! Wasn’t it just yesterday an iconic tv program in beautiful bright colors began? A program created by someone who didn’t realize the impact it would have on us viewers making us hungry for more...Gene Roddenberry’s STAR TREK!

reply

Star Trek broke so many boundaries, didn't it? Awesome.
It was the realization that Mom would blame herself for my situation that started me on the road back from the edge.

reply

Thank you for respecting your mom and leaving the road of perdition. ☺️

reply

I woke up one morning, had my epiphany, and rode off 2 hours later.

reply

Take a look at my username and have three guesses ;)

Now that you mention it my birthday is coming up in the next few weeks. I will accept all major credit cards or bitcoin, if you're stuck for gift ideas.

reply

I was born on a very hot summer day. Well according to my mother it was the HOTTEST summer ever and she was miserable. She reminds me of it every birthday.

Not giving the year...but let's say that the Barbie doll was born around my birthday and my first celebrity crush was Paul Anka on American Bandstand.

reply

You have to be close to my age. I know you weren’t born in 1959 and yet have a crush on Paul Anka. The ‘50’s was a great decade for music. Seems like yesterday!
