Minneapolis Video

There are some insane videos on YouTube about the riots in Minneapolis.

reply

Good. Fucking murderers.

reply

The people of Minneapolis are murderers???

reply

The police are.

reply

Yeah sure, they're the ones being punished by all this looting and rioting right now.πŸ™„

reply

"The people of Minneapolis are murderers???"

At least one of them is. 1 person has been shot as a result of these riots. I know property damage and ruining of lives doesn't count, but yes there has been just as many deaths from the riots as the acting they were "protesting".

reply

Wasn't Laura suggesting that the city deserved these riots because one cop killed a man?

reply

That is what I assumed as well.

reply

Well, that's ridiculous. The victims of all this rioting and looting have nothing to do with that!

reply

Yes that is what I'm saying. The police are killing unarmed citizens.

reply

What a ridiculous thing to say. One cop killed one guy, the victims of these riots are innocent people who had nothing to do with that.

reply

No it's not.
One cop killed one guy = it's more complicated than that.
If you are treated as though your life had no value, why would you value theirs?

Minnesota has a problem with police brutality. They're killing whites too. As if that's a qualifier.

reply

No sure, why would you value the lives of innocent people who had nothing to do with it.πŸ™„

Don't be so utterly absurd.

reply

The other 3 cops still need to be charged with Depraved Indifference.
Yes this is my position. They are murderers.
The only reason one cop HAS been charged is because of public pressure.
So the riots worked better than the knealing.

reply

Those 4 cops don't represent the entire city of Minneapolis. You're disgusting for calling innocent people murderers and wanting them to suffer for the actions of a few others.

reply

I'm calling the cops murderers.the riots are just righteous rage boiling over.

reply

Stealing and damaging the property of innocent people is NOT righteous. It doesn't affect those cops in any way.

What the cops did was wrong and what these rioters are doing is wrong. FACT.

reply

Who is wronger?

reply

"Wronger" is not the correct word.

reply

Most wrong?

reply

Try again, troll.

reply

Troll? You've known me for 2 and a half years.

reply

That's correct.

reply

😯

reply

You are correct that both situations are wrong.

I'm white. I don't generally fear the police here in Canada. My ex husband was first nations, and he did have to fear the police. I almost got myself arrested because I couldn't believe the way he was treated one time he was pulled over and I was in the car. It was such an eye opening experience. There is a problem with police culture. They are not above the law, but they have been allowed to get away with so much for so long. I don't condone the rioting, but I understand the anger. Nothing has changed since the Rodney King riots back in the 90s.

reply

Well, I'm a young white woman and have been mistreated by police. I even filed a complaint (and of course never heard back from them).

It's more about abuse of power than racism. White cops aren't the only ones doing this (speaking from experience)

I don't believe for one moment these rioters are angry. They're just like football hooligans.

reply

I think a lot of the protesters are angry. I just don't know how many of the protesters are the rioters and vice versa. I agree they are just like the football, or any sport rioter.

reply

sorry to hear that.

reply

It was pretty traumatic. Intimidation and personal insults. It's not like I deal with the police on a daily basis, so it made me feel unsafe. Clearly there are cops who abuse their power. I don't feel the need to torch any police station, though.

reply

Middle aged white man here who has been mistreated by cops more than once. I will always have a major distrust of LEO’s.

reply

I have to say that the few interactions I've had with cops have all been negative. And they were of different genders and races. I do not feel I can rely on them whatsoever.

reply

I agree. They are just like other segments of the population where there are good and bad. The difference with cops is that they have the ability to arrest you.

reply

I stay clear of them these days. I feel as if simply looking at them the wrong way could set them off.

reply

i always thought that a woman of a certain age and look could get away with murder.

reply

It seems they've got a different policy over here!

reply

it was sort of a reference to a seinfeld episode.

reply

Ow. Don't remember anything like that.😬

reply

And, actually, they DO represent the city of Minneapolis, literally.

reply

No, they don't, they're not elected by the people.

reply

I agree that they represent the city. Police have to be held to a higher standard. They are there to protect the citizens. I know that they put themselves at risk everyday, but there have been several different outlets that have investigated how police are trained in the US.

I know it's not an easy to solve situation. With the gun culture in the US, I think it would be terrifying to be a cop, but this situation it's totally a problem. We don't have this issue where I am in Canada. But where I am there is systemic racism against indigenous people. Although they aren't killed by police as much as we aren't as armed, watching some of the arrest videos really shows an issue.

reply

And not working very hard (if at all) on their cases.
Thank you sister ssissig.

reply

It's SO EXTREMELY obvious that I used "entire city" to refer to its citizens, NOT the local government.πŸ™„

None of the victims of these riots hired those cops, so they are NOT responsible for their actions. It's ludicrous.

reply

Blacks have had enough. Also rioting has worked for them in the past. Blacks are probably the most mistreated people in America by authorities and civilians. So many innocent men in jail just for being black. Black males also die in hands of police more than any other race in America. I can admit that burning your city down is not the route I would take but when your back is against the wall. Also it isn’t just 1 cop that killed 1 guy. Cops have been killing black men and boys for decades. You might be a racist.

reply

"You might be a racist."

You ARE a racist.

reply

Sure maybe but not the same way you are. Asians are taught to not trust gwailou but I wouldn’t make you drink at a separate Starbucks. I wouldn’t make you sit in back of the yoga studio. I definitely wouldn’t burn bamboo sticks on your front lawn.

reply

Okay, psycho racist...

reply

This is one black man that would definitely disagree with that:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJmvfbDdhFg

reply

Holy shit, that’s insane.

reply

It looks the 60's all over again with these riots, all these events just prove that history just repeats itself over and over again. It's sickening what happened to George Floyd, and every other victim of police brutality.

reply

Protesters are burning down the police 3rd precinct station right now. There are also fires burning in St Paul.

reply

Protesters? Don't you mean rioters?

reply

True. You can add looters to the conversation, too.

reply

Yes! It's a sickening scenario that keeps repeating itself.

reply

How should people react to watching a modern lynching by the police?

reply

Good question Keelai. I don't think destroying the property of people that have nothing to do with the murder is the answer though.
However, decades of police brutality with a focus on AA's and NO justice being served eventually had to reach a breaking point.

When you see example after example of black people being murdered by cops, and no justice being served, and you realize protesting and speaking up doesn't help, you need to try something-anything different.

Maybe cops will stop murdering black people if they realize this type of stuff can happen.

The cop in the video should be arrested immediately. Why hasn't he been?

reply

Breaking news is that he was taken into custody about 20 minutes ago. Specific charges are unknown.

reply

Good at least it's a start.

reply

The charges have been revealed to be 3rd degree murder, manslaughter. I suspect that there will still be some people dissatisfied with that.

reply

I'm dissatisfied with it, "manslaughter" means killing someone accidentally, without intent to harm. There was absolutely intent to harm in this case, and very likely an intent to kill, certainly an indifference as to whether the poor guy lived. Putting direct pressure on someone's trachea for a short period of time can damage the trachea and kill, while this mofo was kneeling on poor Floyd's trachea for what, half an hour?

They really should have filed for second-degree murder, and I'm sure they could find some other charges as well. Honestly, it sounds like they're still trying to give this murderer a slap on the wrist.

reply

Apparently you didn't see where 3rd degree murder is the primary charge. Manslaughter was added in case a jury couldn't convict on that. Other charges are being looked at, including civil rights violations at a federal level.

reply

I thought manslaughter and 3rd degree murder were basically the same thing. If you know more about the law than I do, what defines 3rd degree murder?

And yeah, obviously there's going to be huge issues with civil rights violations, but that's a separate and later trial.

reply

Almost everything about your post said, 'uninformed'.

"Very likely an intent to kill." Where do you get this brazen presumptuousness from? The cop was hell bent on killing an unarmed black man, in the middle of the day, with bystanders present and cameras recording?

"..for what, half an hour?" It's been steadily reported to have been about 8 minutes with Floyd becoming unresponsive around the last 2.5.

reply

If you cut off the supply of oxygen to the human brain then brain cells start to die off after four minutes, and most people become unresponsive long before that. A cop would know that, that sort of thing is covered in their training on the use of deadly force, and in administering first aid in emergencies. And this guy sat on a man's trachea for EIGHT minutes, long after he'd become unresponsive.

So yes, the fact that he blocked a man's trachea long after he stopped resting and twice as long as it takes to kill or cause permanent brain damage does raise the suspicion of intent to kill. Any sensible person would consider the possibility.

reply

Second-degree murder would be more appropriate, but it's harder to convict. Cops who murder are normally found not guilty.

The DOJ under Barr is useless. He's too busy helping a corrupt president free his imprisoned criminal friends.

reply

I do pity the jurors in the cop's upcoming trial. I hope their names are withheld from the press and public.

reply

Interesting that you're emphasizing that 8 minute time frame after I brought it to your attention. And there's nothing "sensible" about your wild assumptions and conclusions.

reply

I'm with you, Keelai.

reply

If the cop was arrested then nothing.

Imagine if a person of color did something bad and the world came down on their entire community?

Imagine if a priest did something wrong and we attacked all priests and burned churches.

There are bad people in every sector , but to go out and act violently towards the enitre community just because of one or 2 guys is not going to look good to the rest of the world

Many just see these people as looking for an opportunity to steal and act violent.

And this has been a reoccurring theme among these same groups.

reply

It's not an isolated incident. Lynchings, racism and police brutality have a long history and are institutional. Blacks deal with white racism their entire lives and sometimes die because of it.

Stop telling blacks they are wrong for being angry when they see another black man brutally murdered. The authorities didn't want to arrest those cops until the protests happened.

No justice, no peace!

reply

I respect you adhering to that mentality.

Keep up the fight. But you guys are going to get your asses kicked by the real world.

reply

Black people have been fighting for 400 years. If they listened to you, there would be no progress.

Agitate! Agitate! Agitate!

reply

Just heard Chief of Fire Dept saying they can’t get to the station to put it out either.

reply

Why would the police in a town that has Omar in congress take crime seriously. The day after she got elected I would spend my days in a donut shop.

reply

Weird how they're calling them protesters and not vandals.

reply

Protesters? No, they're called Antifa and BLM!!

reply

That make America great thing is working, isn't it?

reply

In the LA riots after Rodney King in the 1990s, Korean shop owners protected their shops by going up on the roof armed with rifles.

I hear that most of them were successful in protecting their stores.

They were, i was there.
