I've deleted my Twitter account and I blame John Boyega.

I can't take it anymore. There is so much stupidity.

Today John Boyega went on a Twitter rant where he said he hated racists. Okay, no issue from me there. But when a black guy agreed with him and said he dumped his girlfriend because she hated white people, that's where it all fell apart. Boyega said that white on black racism was the kind that ruined the world. I didn't tweet Boyega directly but I responded to people in the comments and people didn't see how that statement was ignorant. He's implying that, for example, white genocide on aboriginals didn't ruin the world, only white on black did. He's singling out one specific thing as being the worst. I got called a white supremacist for pointing this out and they said I was an "all lives matter" kind of person.

Boyega received backlash and took to Instagram and said that he hated white racists and if we don't like it, we can go suck a dick. Literally his words, not mine. He's not getting criticized for this statement either.

So now I've deleted my account. My tweets are completely gone and I'm done with people who don't understand nuance. I am now free!

reply

The thing is people think he's calling out racism but don't realize how ignorant he is being. Those tweets in the article were tame. He was swearing at people and blocking everyone who even politely disagreed with him.

reply

I've never used Twitter and after 4 years of seeing daily tweets from a certain world leader in other media, I'm pretty sure I never will. Seems like a cesspool.

reply

THE ENTIRE WORLD'S COLLECTIVE MIND...ABSOLUTE GARBAGE.

reply

Oh, today I got accused of being a Trump supporter too. I hate the guy but people wanna make their assumptions.

reply

So, a white supremacist AND a Trump supporter, eh? I’m going to have to start making a list.

reply

People throw this crap around all the time. You try to put something into context and you just get accused of deflecting.

I was arguing with this black girl who said that white won black racism ruined the world. I said that there are so many forms of racism that can be attributed to ruining the world like white on Aboriginal racism. She said white on black was what ruined the world and nothing else. She kept calling me racist. Whatever, I deleted my account and it's done. Actually when I came here to post this topic, I felt like I was with sane people.

reply

Deleting your account and walking away was the right course of action. Life is just too short.

reply

I think your mistake is saying to yourself "I wonder what John Boyega is thinking about today?"

I have never been curious about a celebrities (actor/singer) world view.

reply

I didn't search for it. It came up on my timeline because someone liked his tweet.

reply

In the heat of the moment some people can only see as far as their own noses. So called racism is really just the instinct that predates humanity for having a preference for one's own kind over other kinds. Viewed in that light everyone to a greater or lesser degree is a racist or at least a latent racist.

If John Boyega thinks whites are racist against blacks he would be horrified by what Chinese people think of blacks. And he can always emigrate to his ancestral homeland and live in Africa with his fellow Africans if he hates racist whites so much. But I won't be holding my breath waiting for that to happen.

I don't know if you have Twitter, but if I said this, this is what people there would consider a deflection even though you're absolutely right. I never like to call people names or swear at them but I got nothing but insults hurled at me. I'm not liberal or conservative, but these people all had their pronouns in their bio, Black Lives Matter in their bio and retweets from liberal politicians. I thought liberals were supposed to be the tolerant ones.

reply

Liberals only think they are the tolerant ones. The trouble is they want to force everyone else to be "tolerant" in exactly the same way that they are. Or else !

reply

Pretty broad statement there. I mean I see where you are coming from but you must concede that conservatives are pretty set in their ways themselves and will often dismiss opposing arguments as myopically as liberals do.

It's when it degenerates to base name-calling that I call it a day. I left that shit behind at the school playground and if you have to personally attack someone simply because they have different political ideals to you then you are emotionally fragile and intellectually weak. Sadly this is where it starts, not ends, with many people.

reply

I think that the current determined push by liberal activists to try to make everyone accept the fringe as mainstream is incredibly stupid and dangerous.

reply

I think that the trouble is that when we can surround ourselves with like minded people we tend to get more extreme. There have been studies on this, and they are pretty fascinating from a study perspective, but in the real world not so much.

When we can ignore those who disagree with us, get our news from obviously biased companies, surround ourselves with those who feel the same we do, we tend to feel safe in the mob voicing those opinions that might have been a little too much previously.

I honestly do think that most of the world is somewhere in the middle. We don't see things as just black and white, right and left, up and down....you get the point. There are just fewer on the sidelines who yell the loudest to be heard over everyone else. I also think that those who have been a victim do feel more empowered to speak, which is great in my opinion, but there many cases of these fringe groups co opting these stories for their own narratives. And yes, this applies to both ends of the spectrum.

I don't know John Boyega other than a few of his roles. I don't know what has happened to him that has hurt him so, but I do know to stay away from Twitter.

reply

What an insightful comment. I couldn’t agree more 👍👍

reply

On Twitter, I always tried to be as nice as I can. But yesterday I must've been in a fight with about 30 people and literally every single first responses to me were: "STFU, go fuck yourself, you're a white supremacist" and so on. Instead of respectfully disagreeing, it was insult after insult. But I hope you're right that most people would be in the middle.
I have no problem with someone disagreeing, but if you start yelling and insulting, the problem is you.

reply

I don't know man, but I get the feeling Boyega might have been at the receiving end of racist attitudes more often than you and I. I would assume it would get to the point where you lose your shit and make provocative statements that don't necessarily tell the whole story of your experience.

At the end of the day though, it's one man's words which you can either chose to take on board or ignore if you disagree. One thing is certain, there will always be someone who will say something to raise your hackles, the only way to avoid that is to disconnect completely.

reply

Yes of course something has happened that set him off. And don't worry I have been known to lose my temper on these boards as well because there is only so much you can tolerate after all. So I am no saint in that regard.

I approach the matter from a different angle in that I am against globalisation and multi-culturalism in the first place. And John Boyega's distress is just one of the reasons why. So long as you mix black and white you will get "racism". It's in the genes and it's not going anywhere.

reply

IS THAT A CALL FOR SEGREGATION?

reply

IS THAT KOWALSKI TRYING TO STIR UP TROUBLE AGAIN ?

reply

JUST KOWALSKI DOING THIS REAL MORON THING...ITS CALLED THINKING...

" So long as you mix black and white you will get "racism"."

reply

"So long as you mix black and white you will get "racism". It's in the genes and it's not going anywhere."

I grew up with the majority of people around me having similar views but somehow it never sat right with me. I'm probably not quite as clever as you to rationalize why that might be, but I've honestly just never seen the reason people of different races can't coexist peacefully. I know how flimsy and idealistic that may sound to others but it's my truth. Also, one of the great loves of my life was from a different race than myself, so the idea that I could put myself up as superior to that person I loved with all my heart is just silly to me.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts respectfully though. It's really refreshing.

reply

Nice talking to you.

reply

You’re quite clever and I agree. I don’t think mixing races creates racism. I think racism exists because people think their way is the right way. There is no “right” way to live or act. There are background differences and cultural differences that should be respected. The superior attitude appears when people think “I live this way so you should too. If you don’t think and act like me then you’re inferior.” Humans consider themselves the superior species. If we’re so smart, then why are we the only species that hasn’t figured out how to coexist with each other, or how to coexist with the rest of the planet? The earth doesn’t belong to us, we belong to the earth.
Your beliefs don’t sound flimsy or idealistic to me. You sound grounded and true.

reply

Well I wasn’t expecting that! Thank you so much for saying so. We seem to be on the same page here, your comments about coexisting with each other and the planet were spot on, the selfishness of the human race is so frustrating at times. It’s often only the small displays of human kindness (like you just did there) that remind me of our capacity to be better than we are collectively. In any case you’ve put a smile on my face so thanks again ❤️

reply

I don't know man, but I get the feeling Boyega might have been at the receiving end of racist attitudes more often than you and I

I agree but this isn't about me. He's coming off as if white racism against blacks is worse than any other racism. I could argue that white racism against aboriginals is just as bad or possibly worse. It sounds like he's belittling racism against other races to get his point across that white racism against blacks is a serious issue.

reply

"I don't know man, but I get the feeling Boyega might have been at the receiving end of racist attitudes more often than you and I."

My first thought was "I bet that guy has never experienced real racism in his life, and where does a rich bastard get off complaining anyway", but then I remembered he'd been dealing with the psycho Star Wars fanboys for the last five years.

Some of them are truly vile. And I bet he's been contractually obligated to keep his mouth shut about them, until the DVD of the last film had hit the discount stands.

reply

Believe me, unless he's hemorrhaging money - the Africans don't want him.
The reason... he's AMERICAN!!

reply

English actually. Born in London.

reply

Oh. Okay. Allow me to rephrase... he's ENGLISH!!
Sorry - typical American, I think we're the center of the universe.
It kills me, these folks who think they can claim heritage that didn't even apply to their grandparents.

reply

It kills me, these folks who think they can claim heritage that didn't even apply to their grandparents.

This is the result of firstly multi-culturalism where you have people from anywhere in the world thinking they have a right to live in the Western country of their choice " the same as anyone else ". And secondly a servile pandering to their largely imaginary suffering that gives them an exaggerated sense of grievance and entitlement that leads to the knee-jerk ' Whites bad blacks good ' simplistic way of thinking.

reply

That might be true had Europeans not forcibly taken control of much of the globe relatively recently in human history. By saying that I in no way subscribe to the view that black is good, white is bad. However not to even acknowledge the fact that many native races have some reason to feel aggrieved by the suppression of their culture and in some cases humanity, only tells part of the story.

reply

That might be true had Europeans not forcibly taken control of much of the globe relatively recently in human history.

People say this as though there is something uniquely shocking about it. One group of humans or another has been marauding across the landscape taking whatever they could by force since time out of memory. It's called business as usual. Just look at the history of England itself.

However not to even acknowledge the fact that many native races have some reason to feel aggrieved by the suppression of their culture and in some cases humanity, only tells part of the story.

This is an example of over-identifying with the "victims" in my opinion. Look at the Australian Aboriginals for example, there is no doubt the English invaded their land and took it over.

From another point of view the Aboriginals if you can believe the science had Australia all to themselves for at least 60,000 years. That is a pretty good innings wouldn't you say ! I doubt there are many other people in the world who could boast so much.

And what did the Aboriginals lose ? A hunter gatherer life that was pretty hard if you go back and look at the records. They were exposed to the elements, had next to no possessions and aged quickly. Yes they had a mythology that embedded them in the land and a culture. What did the Aboriginals gain ? They gained a first world country to live in over time and many of them though not all have taken advantage of that.

So should we think that the Aboriginals have been cruelly treated and trodden into the dirt by the hateful white man ? I don't think so. Many Aboriginals live as well as many white Australians do and none of them so far as I'm aware live as full-time hunter gatherers anymore.

reply

I've always treated people with the respect they earn. Variations on the human theme have nothing to do with the persons themselves.
I wouldn't care if they were green martians worshipping the great cosmic fart and speaking literally gibberish - as long as they carried their weight and didn't dissolve anyone with their acid drool.

On the other hand, he's an ignoramus.

reply

Who’s an ignoramus buddy? Boyega?

reply

Is it important to you? Do you take offense? Think it's about you?

reply

???

Well I didn’t before! That’s some attitude though so I suppose something I said didn’t sit right. Oh well.

reply

Well it's not about you. It's about the guy claiming heritage with nothing more than a genetic connection.
If a Belgian person whose great grandma came from the US called himself American, would you take it seriously?
As far as calling you an ignoramus...
I don't know you.

reply

I Love that movie! Carried his swords in his boots. No one would ever do that, but it looked cool as Hell when I was a kid 😆

STEEL DAWN & MANNEQUIN...LITTLE KOWALSKI'S WHOLE WORLD.

She's awesome!

reply

Wait... little KOWALSKI?

reply

I WAS LITTLE ONCE👶

reply

Ok I was confused for a minute. There were too many possibilities

reply

You could have just unfollowed Boyega.

Who you make sound like 200 kinds of twat, BTW.

reply

UNFOLLOW FINN🤬THATS SAVAGE.

reply

Boyega must be a damn good actor, to play a guy I like so much!

reply

I never followed him to begin with. On Twitter if somebody you follow likes a tweet, sometimes it shows up on your timeline.

reply

I don’t have twitter and I’ll have to do a search to see who John Boyega is. 🤔

reply

i'm a bit of a twitter addict. i'm obsessively on it all the time, often at times when i shouldn't be.

and it absolutely brings the worst out in me, at times. it seems like a site designed to prod and poke and provoke my inner rage. i said something very stupid and silly and really quite shameful this weekend, and deleted it later, but not before i was rightfully slammed for it and muted by at least one person who i really like.

which is all my problem, of course...no one's holding a gun to my head and making me go there. but i do seem to be, to this point, unable to walk away from it.

reply

I was on Twitter for a month many years ago and once I got over the initial buzz of occasionally talking to celebrities I came to the conclusion that it was worthless, a minority opinion obviously.

reply

well, as much as i find myself hating it at times, twitter is also a great tool. there are tons of writers & thinkers who make themselves available, and i know i've learned a lot and have been introduced to tons of things i probably wouldn't have found without it.

but i also think some people just aren't made for such a platform, and i might be one of those people.

john podhoretz, a writer i like quite a bit, left twitter a few years back after he got dragged down my mass outrage several times for saying things a bit heterodox or off-colour. he said at the time that he realized he simply couldn't function on that platform because he couldn't control his reactions to the endless, instant provocations, the minute by minute barrage of trolls & antagonists.

as much as i feel like i get lots out of it, it's definitely a bit of a strain on my own misery levels, and probably my blood pressure at times.

reply

The sad thing about Twitter is that you can think something one day and change your opinion a hear later, but someone could have a screenshot of it. The thing is that we've all had opinions that have changed over the years, but now it's biting us in the ass.

reply

That reminds me of Will Smith's comment about his son's online "stupidity."

reply

What did he say?

reply

Something along the line of we all did / said stupid things when we were teens, but back then there were no social media recording them forever.

reply

Oh, I got worried. I thought he said something I was going to dislike him about.

reply

it seems like a site designed to prod and poke and provoke my inner rage

This was the clear intent of Twitter. To divide.

reply

I’m proud of you samoanjoes! That stuff will rot your brain.
Why would this John guy be criticized for saying we can go suck a dick? He’s simply saying if you don’t like what he has to say then don’t listen.
Anyway, arguing about racism on Twitter is probably as beneficial as learning about the war on drugs from amerigirl.
Experience the real world and read books! Don’t waste your mind and energy on twats, you’re better than that. Like you said, you’re free now.

reply

A lot of people feel that telling someone to go suck a dick is homophobic.

reply

Not in the real world. I just asked my neighbors what they’d think if I told them to suck my dick. Without hesitation, neighbor replied, suck MY dick. Twitter is horseshit.

reply

Speaking strictly for the rednecks... around here if you tell a man to suck your dick, you may as well have spit on him.

reply

This motherfucker is a marine from Georgia. He didn’t skip a beat.

reply

Awesome. I bet he's not on Twitter ;)

reply

Now we see each other😁🤟

reply

The term motherfucker is incestphobic.

reply

My bad. I meant no offense to anyone from West Virginia.

reply

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYGMNzFLvC0

reply

Wtf?! I didn’t get the cool chant.😏

reply

But you were just talking about your neighbor, the marine. Guess you'd have to see the movie to get it. Interesting how we overlapped on this according to the time stamp.

reply

A lot of people are idiots. It's not homophobic at all, the last time I checked straight women can be partial to the pastime themselves. I think you'll find that generally only the most militant will take exception to a statement like that. The perpetually offended. Most gay people will laugh at that sort of comment so don't take the word of internet nutjobs, they don't speak for the majority, whatever their political persuasion is.

reply

So let me get this straight - somebody saying something offensive, that is intended to offend, might be considered offensive to some people 🤯

The irony is delicious 🤣🤣🤣

reply

“arguing about racism on Twitter is probably as beneficial as learning about the war on drugs from amerigirl.”

I just spat my drink out reading that.
