Local cinemas to open soon

In Australia, cinemas will be able to open soon with restricted numbers. The problem they have is lack of new releases. I'm hoping they decide to screen some classics in the interim.

That would be cool if they aired some classics; I would love that!!!

reply

It would be fantastic. I reckon they'd get quite a few patrons too.

reply

But they will be restricted by smaller allowed in. Almost feels like a no-win to me.
I mean, they could charge even more to the people who can afford it while the rest of us simply can't go.

reply

True. I've been saving a bit of money during lockdown so I'd be willing to pay a bit more

reply

I'll make the Capt Obvious comment and say watching a movie in a theater is so much more energizing than watching at home.

reply

Sure is

reply

They should be able to make more money showing older films as the licensing shouldn't be as much, in theory.

reply

I saw the IMAX rerelease of Apocalypse Now last summer and I wish they would do that with other classics.

reply

I saw terminator 2 at Hoyts end of last year in Brisbane. Be good if they showed more older movies though.

reply

2001: A Space Odyssey would be great on the big screen

reply

If that ever gets rereleased on an IMAX screen I will make sure to go.

The drive ins in my area have been open for a couple weeks now. I would be all in for a classic double feature in place of new releases.

reply

Sadly I don't live near any drive ins

reply

I actually worked at the last drive-in in my city. It closed in 1994.

We are so far north here that it doesn't get dark until about 10:30 - 11:00 pm in June that they had to start them quite late. I don't know if that's the reason that we closed but I did hear it mentioned.

Did the snack bar serve nachos?

reply

We did. Burgers, nachos, chicken fingers etc, plus regular movie theatre snacks. 26 years ago, it was impressive.

reply

Supposedly they are making a comeback due to coronavirus.

reply

I had completely forgotten about drive-in cinemas. I'm sure they don't let you sit outside your car D:
