Not really. You're just a snob that wants to feel superior.

reply

I agree with Harry Potter 👍👍👍

I disagree with your arguments. People can like popular movies because they genuinely enjoy them and they are well made. It doesn't mean that they can't think for themselves or have no personality. I like some popular films, including several on your list, but I also like obscure films that most people haven't head of. So, what movies do you actually like?

reply

Although I disagree with most of these, I do understand and respect your opinion. My issue is at #23, do you mean any horror film before the 70's? Before the 50's? And of the hundreds of horror films to come out in those eras, you're assuming every single one of them sucks? At #25, the Harry Potter films aren't really seen as cinematic masterpieces; even the best two films don't hold much against Lord Of The Rings or Star Wars, for example. And at #12, most critics hated Adam Sandler's 90's comedies and the only ones who liked them were kids who grew up with them.

Mr. Doubtfire? Is that a porno? I've heard they rename movies (like edward penis-hands).

reply

Oh great...a hipster. Lol.

You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but quite honestly I think you hit the nail on the head when you accused yourself of hating "popular things". I know people like that - full disclosure, my wife is one - who will reflexively hate something that too many other people are raving about, even if they haven't seen it.

Now I have seen 'The Godfather' and I would agree that it is probably THE singular most overrated movie of all time. I know professional actors who consider it to be the greatest thing ever filmed and Brando's performance unsurpassed by any other performer; I don't believe either to be even remotely true. For its time - 1972 - it was groundbreaking for its level of onscreen violence and relatively complex plotting, but when I watched it for the first time, about five years ago, I had to ask, what's the big deal?

I won't bore anyone with my personal take on every film or series on the list. I will just reiterate that yeah, I think 'The Godfather' deserves to be on there, but that many others are, if not the be-all and end-all of the cinematic arts, as some would tell you, at least decent, entertaining movies.

And BTW, how on Earth did you miss 'Titanic' and 'Avatar'?

reply

You included 'Pulp Fiction' but not Tarantino's two 'Kill Bill' films, in which Tarantino's penchant for self-indulgence reached its pinnacle, and which are frequently cited by a certain species of film buff as "masterpieces".

'Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood' is the only movie Tarantino has made to date that I'm not sorry I took the time to watch. I saw it once in the theater - and probably would have seen it there a couple more times had the Zombie Apocalypse not intervened - and twice more at home, and I will watch it again. Brad Pitt's performance alone is worth the price of admission.
