Warm Food That Is Also Good Cold

Pizza

Pork chops, especially breaded

Chicken, in any cooked form

Ditto turkey

Oh,hell, ANY poultry, including duck, Poussin, squab and pheasant.

Your nominations? Chinese, perhaps?

A lot of pasta dishes work as pasta salad the next day, as well as hot.

I made a pasta with avocado sauce (avocado melted in the hot drained pasta, with lemon juice and cayenne), and a ton of fresh veggies. As the tomatoes, red onions, and canned artichoke hearts were thrown in at the last minute and not thoroughly cooked, they were still fresh and tasty as chilled pasta salad for lunch the next day.

reply

Don't you find cold, breaded pork chops soggy?

reply

Nope, not the way my mother made them. The breading was light so the chilled or ambient-temperature chops remained firm and crisp. They were often part of my grade school brown bag lunch.

reply

Nice. I don't mind most food cold as long as it isn't soggy.

reply

disagree with chicken, that breaded crap in the grocery store that is stored cold after being cooked needs to be heated up, tastes like crap cold

reply

I once tried to reheat a breaded chicken sandwich from some fast food joint and it was like leather. Was an A-HA moment for me, although I may have later done it again with less dramatic results. I always try to get a supposedly "broiled" chicky san over a "deep fried" one.

i prefer pizza cold, & have always wondered if there were enough like-minded people to make it worthwhile for pizza shops to deliver it cold. presumably not, since if such a market did exist, it would be filled. and of course there's no cost in popping a hot pizza in the fridge yourself, other than the time lost.

nothing else i can think of that i like that much cold for food, but i prefer iced coffee over hot stuff.

Ramen.

Stuffing. Beef stew.

reply

Yes, stuffing can make a great garnish to a sandwich.

German Potato Salad - love it hot or cold.

reply

I’ve never had warm ‘tater salad! Thanks for the idea.

reply

Have you ever had German Potato Salad with the hot bacon dressing? Delish when it's fresh and warm.

reply

Yes, once or twice. You know your food and you’re making me hungry. Often the entree is just as excuse for the side dishes! And ‘tater salad is also a wonderful garnish for a hearty sandwich, like corned beef or pastrami. Or both; on dark Rhye or crusty loaf; with a bottle of Gewurztraminer and charming company.
