Car doors 🤔

In Britain if a car has two rear doors we say say that car is a five door. Which I always thought was weird as the fifth door refers to the boot/trunk.
I suppose technically it's a door but you dont use it to get in and out of the car.
Americans refer to this as a four door which makes more sense.
I wonder where this came from, it's just odd 🤷‍♀️

English just doesn't make sense that's why. For example: when I was in school and we had homework, the teacher would tell us to double space. All it meant was that if we were doing a writing assignment, he/she wanted us to skip a line. Single spacing meant don't skip any lines. I never understood how that worked. Not sure if other countries use these terms also.

we don't count the trunk as a door in canada.

In the US, we call cars with a hatchback and 4 side doors a 5 door vehicle.

Oh ok, thanks for educating me. My only reference is films and tv and they always say 4 door/2door.
