More content is making me more picky/less satisfied.

I'm finding its a zero sum game. I thought I would have more options and more quality by subscribing to more services. Instead I am now more picky, and even less satisfied even though I have so many more options. Ironically I find myself more dissatisfied and watching even less shows.

With quarantine I thought I would be catching up with so many shows, but I am generally just sick of the whole thing and watching even less than before.

Same here... At my disposal is Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus, and CBS All Access, but I get that same feeling.

But I would do that with discs too, buy them and never get around to watching them.

I think it's because there are only a small percentage of shows/movies that are really good. So even thought there are so many more options, there is still only that small percentage that is worthwhile. While that number does go up, so does the number of all the crap we have to wade through to get to the good stuff.

I think there's plenty of quality choices (if you're like me you have a list of "must-see" recommendations from friends that you may or may not intend to get to someday). I think it's more likely that too much choice just overloads the brain and results in decision fatigue (which is why after unsuccessfully looking for something good to watch we settle on a rerun of The Office for the 19th time). When I was a kid we only had a few stations so we'd run through our options quickly and decide what to watch and then watch it. When video stores emerged although we had a lot of choices, once we made our picks we were for the most part locked in since it'd be time consuming and expensive to run to the video store if we didn't like the first 10 minutes of the video/DVD we brought home (plus who wants to go through the trouble of walking over to the VCR to remove the tape). Now if something doesn't catch your attention in the first few minutes you can shut it off and look through thousands of other choices without getting up. Sometimes too many choices can be a curse lol

That's what Tarantino said.
