What famous people have you met?

I've met quite a few at celebrity events and such.
Just a few:
Martin Landau.---2015 in L.A. I had breakfast with him and he was yelling at the waiter: "No good, no good, this egg isn't hard enough, I need a HARD boiled egg. Now PLEASE!" So over the top, obviously still acting. He was funny. Later he went outside for a smoke. I guess when you're in your 80s you can do whatever you want. But had he quit he'd probably still be alive.
Barbara Eden- 2014--Chicago-- Just asked how her dog Djinn Djinn was and stuff.
Ed Asner-2017 Chicago.-- Met him while he was eating lunch: a tamale. He's funny too.
A few others:
Chuck Negron (of 3 Dog Night)
Kim Darby
Lesley Ann Warren
Robert Clary (Lebeau)
And 1994: Jay Leno interviewed me in the NYC subway for a segment for the Tonight Show that never aired. I don't really like him anyway (he's not as bad as Letterman though, but so far below Carson).
1994-- Sarah Silverman in NYC before she was famous handing out flyers for a comedy club. I said I wasn't interested. Then she started a kind of comedy bit at my expense (if you know her type of humor). I should have gone, oh well.

Not quite a meeting, per se, but an encounter worth a tale.

Decades ago when I was doing stage hand work, I was on a small filler gig for a local audio/visual guy. It was a Christmas banquet in a swanky country club's relatively small ballroom. I had long hair at the time but I clean up well so I didn't stick out too much among the well heeled in attendance. Yet I still stood out.
The cramped venue required the spot light stand I was to man to be crowded in between a few back tables. The event start time was rapidly approaching so the one other guy on our crew and I had a quick cigarette outside around a corner. I kept thinking I was seeing someone out of the corner of my eye. I started practicing situational awareness and silently listened to my co-worker rant on borderline inappropriate topics. I felt mild embarrassment for his lack of aplomb in the setting. Put our smokes out, reentered the ballroom, and manned our positions.
I got on my 2 ft high stand and fired up the spot; checking its levers for smooth function. My Spidey-Senses tingled again and I scanned the crowd. Immediately saw that I was being watched from the far edges of the crowd by big dudes with wires hanging from their ears. I realized that there was probably someone of political stature at the event. I scanned the crowd thinking it was probably President Ford since he was a semi-regular in the Palm Springs area until I finally found him seated about 3 feet from me under my nose. Seated right next to him was Bob Hope who was looking right at me with a huge ear-to-ear smile. He must have watched the entire thing played out in expressions on my face. He gave me a wink. I felt doubly honored.

Later on, a table and screen needed to be struck from the dance floor to make way for revelry. My coworker was on the lead end of the table, walking backward. I told him to slow down. I gave him urgent instructions to move to HIS right. He went left and I shouted STOP! He was an inch away from bowling over President Ford and his wife whom had ventured out to the dance floor prematurely. If you know anything about Ford, you know that this was par for the course.

So there ya have it. Got an exchange of expressions with Bob and almost took part in another Ford prat-fall.

reply

You should have let him go left and then shouted, Live from Palm Springs, it's Saturday Night!

reply

LOL someone said the exact same thing later that night when stories were exchanged over beers.

David Attenborough and Terry Pratchett, both at book signings, so very briefly. Sir David is my hero since childhood so that was a magical moment, and as I would expect he was warm, polite - a perfect gentleman.

His brother Richard is one of my favorite actors! I never met him, but have his autograph.

reply

Richard was a fine actor - superb in Brighton Rock and Seance on a Wet Afternoon. It’s very cool that you have his autograph.

I have met (briefly at my job):

1. Drew Barrymore (friendly)
2. Diane Keaton (friendly)
3. Earle Hyman (Grandfather from Cosby Show)—very nice
4. Lisa Marie Presley (at one of her concerts backstage) very cool
5. Brad Whitford (outside before soundcheck while traveling in Colorado)
6. Ben Stein (very nice guy)
7. Reese Witherspoon (rude) and Jake Gyllenhaal (when they were dating way back when)
8. Michael Williams (from Michael Williams Band) although I didn’t know who he was at the time
9. Bill Miller (awesome guy) at a double concert and briefly on the phone
10. Josh Duhamel (at Adventure World when he was on All My Children doing a Soap Opera Event) I still have the photo of us hugging. He’s so tall and very good looking. He told my cousin she was beautiful and I was so jealous at the time, lol.
I’m sure I’ve missed someone but that is all I can think of right now.
