We Need More Revolutionary War Movies

Besides The Patriot, what else is there? I've seen April Morning with Tommy Lee Jones, but that didn't exactly have a large budget. I did enjoy it, however.

The French and Indian War is an interesting time period as well and The Last of the Mohicans is an all time favorite. I'd love to find similar movies.

You may be right. There really aren't very many good films about it. The only other one I can think of is Drums Along the Mohawk (1939), but that doesn't really focus on the war itself.

reply

Not a movie, an HBO miniseries--John Adams (2008). Really good stuff.

reply

I just remembered this one. It's good.

reply

Ya, I came across this already and plan on watching it.

Guns Along the Mohawk is a great classic movie that I've always liked.

reply

I'm sure its a great classic, one which I will most likely watch, but I'm looking for something more modern.

Drums..

reply

LOL - Yes - Senior moment. Sigh.

reply

Drums...guns. They both make a lot of noise! 🤭

I have been wondering about this for years. I read a book recently about Washington and his time in the French and Indian War and you could easily do a movie.

reply

What's the book called?

I just started Barkskins, which they adapted into a limited miniseries that will be premiering on NatGeo this Month. Anything early North America catches my attention.

There are two that I'd like to suggest ...

1. The Crossing (2000) - a made for TV film regarding Washington crossing the Delaware on Christmas eve in order to attack Trenton. Jeff Daniels played General Washington. It was shown on A&E.

2. Sons of Liberty (2015) - a three part mini-series that was shown on The History Channel. It's set mostly in Boston, although parts of it are set in Philadelphia. It covers the exploits of Sam Adams, Paul Revere, John Hancock, Dr. Samuel Warren, John Adams, Ben Franklin and George Washington. The mini-series mostly covers the events that led up to the Revolutionary War, and not the actual war itself, as the mini-series ends with the ratification of the Declaration of Independence and the start of the British attack on New York.

I've actually seen Sons of Liberty. Thanks for jogging my memory. Forgot about that.

I vote for more WWI movies(seriously, it's fascinating). WWII gets all the attention and all the chicks. Let some other war play for a while.

reply

I'm down with that. One of my favorite genres. I saw "Theeb" recently which I thought was pretty good.

reply

If this guys pod casts don’t get ya interested in WWI, nothing will. Each part is around 3 hours long.
