What do you do when you're living a lie?

How do you face the truth of the reality of the inevitables for instance you may think a gun is good to have until it comes to being confronted with one or actually having used one. the blood, the pain, the death, them or you so the thought of having a gun is great but the reality is not.

how do you face your truths?

reply

It sounds like you just confronted a lie. Admitting it is the first step.

reply

this is basically what happened, i was addressing my delusions actually, similar to lying to yourself... in my opinion everyone has some degree of delusion within themselves when they don't address and heal them... in a way they're kind of like lying to yourself.

reply

So, if I don't own a gun does that mean that I'm not living a lie?

reply

If I own a gun and I think it's a good idea to have one and my reality is that I don't care about the blood, death, pain it would inflict because I would only use one in extreme circumstances - not sure if you consider that to be a lie or not.

Edit - this was directed to the OP, not Andy.

My truth is I’ve owned firearms responsibly my entire adult life as have all of my family from generations before me. I have firearms handed down that belonged to my great grandfather and they are quite important to me. My reality is quite different than yours.

Spoken like someone who has ZERO experience with firearms.
What do you do when someone says they're going to hurt you? Kill you? Harm those you care for? Lay down and die? Is that how you face your truths?
Lemme guess - you're going to wait for the police.
OMG too funny!

we don't have fire arms for hand guns in Aus mate

if you're here to discuss gun ownership, i'm not sure why you wouldn't just throw that in your subject line.

i'm all for gun ownership. in an optimal world, we wouldn't have it or need it, but we don't have that world.

i view gun ownership as an insurance policy, something a responsible person does to protect themselves.

just as there's little chance your house will burn down but you carry insurance to protect for that low chance high impact event, i think everyone should carry a gun to protect themselves from low-probability/high-impact threats.

reply

i'm not here to discuss gun ownership, just my delusions of guns and me as an Australian

If you don't mind, I'm just going to answer your question hypothetically and not address your example in the prompt. Others have given good feedback in that area.

Please don't take my following words as harsh or inconsiderate. Your question presumes that we can change the world around us; that's only partially true. We can however, change who we are. Once this happens, then changing the world would be a whole lot easier because people wouldn't be afraid to be who they are while still treating others with respect and kindness.

Sometimes, even when we're trying to be gentle, generally speaking, we're not always going to be treated the same in turn. Agreeing to disagree is one of the better outcomes here.

This is a pretty deep conversation you have going on with others. And, it's remarkably civil; the back and forth responses and everything.
