tell me what to watch tonight

i'm probably going to watch one of the films disappearing off the criterion channel at the end of the month.

tell me what to do. i'll listen.

options:

two i've seen:
annie hall (in its favour - short, entertaining.)
some like it hot (great, of course, but i've seen it within the last two years)

& three i have not:
the harder they come
thank god it's friday (by all accounts it's awful, but it's short & looks like it could be fun).
jason & the argonauts

Exactly 👍

i'll try to fit it in later tonight, or (more likely) tomorrow.

i've seen the famous skeleton scene from jason... a bunch of times, but never the full film.

so far, tgif is crammed with dialogue that would have been rejected from the three's company writer's room. but i'm not bored! and that's good enough for me.

I AM NOT GONNA WATCH THAT...BUT I LEARNED SOMETHING...THANKS.

I just finished watching Thank God It's Friday. It was not good. Even though it is less than 90 minutes, it dragged on a lot. It was nowhere near as fun or sexy as it should have been. Writing wasn't very good and performances are hit and miss. Some good moments and a nice song by Donna Summer and it was kinda fun to see a young Jeff Goldblum. My rating is a 4/10.

reply

yeah, this is absolutely not good.

the main redeeming feature is a performance of the great last dance by donna summer. one of her best singles. weirdly enough, it looks like she wasn't lip-synching - it appears she was singing live to a backing track. they didn't include the slow building opening, robbing the song of a good bit of impact.

also has young debra winger looking reasonably foxy.

but this film is justifiably vilified, and i will never think of it again. i've been at funeral wakes that had more laughs.

i once saw something else as bad as thank god it's friday, but i sprayed it with some tough actin' tenactin and it went away.

The Harder They Come.

I like it so much I have the DVD, the soundtrack on vinyl AND the poster on my wall. You gotta give it a watch.

reply

i absolutely love the soundtrack. never watched the film, for whatever reason.

every damn song on that album is a perfect delight. all great, but johnny too bad is probably my favourite track.

i'm watching jason... tonight, so maybe i'll try to work harder in tomorrow.

“with a piece in his hand he takes on the man”

“He makes women and the charts and is on top with both”

Pornhub. You won't be disappointed.

So which one did you choose?

as you can see in the little back & forth i had with allaby, i first went with thank god it's friday. and we both agreed that it is more than a little crap. i actually can't believe this basically worthless film is on the criterion channel.

& then i did manage to sneak in jason & the argonauts after that, & i enjoyed that quite a bit. i didn't find the mythological adventure story all that interesting, but the harryhausen stop motion effects are all great & really fun to watch.

i'm probably going to give the harder they come a try tonight.

reply

OH WOW...THE HARDER THEY COME...THAT LOOKS COOL...IM GONNA HAVE TO SEE THAT.
