Do you resent either of your parents for traits you inherited from them?

I love my parents to death, but I regularly find myself spiting my mom for my impatience and irritability. I can’t seem to stay consistently happy for this reason, my neuroses prevents me from being able to remain positive in the face of everyday annoyances.

No. They gave me the most precious gift of all: life.

No. They gave me the most precious gift of all: stereo.

Lol stereo hearing?

I'm a soft speaker and have a soft laugh, I think that's from my dad. I like people who have a big laugh and I don't have that.

reply

I don't resent them. No.

But I do blame them.

I've got major male pattern baldness, probably from my Dad's side of the family, though it pretty much skipped him. His hairs thinning now, especially on top, but that happens to most old men. I lost my hair in my early thirties!

And I'm short like my mom. Thanks, both of you! (kidding)

Actually MPB comes almost exclusively from the mother’s side, based on her father.

I've read recently that's mostly a myth, though. It's more complicated. Which makes sense to me, since my kind of male pattern baldness I've seen on my father's side.

reply

Where have you read that’s a myth? It’s pretty well studied, and easily observable to anyone. Look at grandpa.

reply

Look at grandpa? It's not the case in my family, like I said.

Here's an article. https://www.businessinsider.com/baldness-genes-going-bald-isnt-all-your-mothers-fault-2018-3

My maternal grandfather was a cue ball at 23. His 3 sons followed that "pattern"(lol) almost completely. Even Mom has a thinning spot over her crown. I assumed I was going to lose my hair so I started growing it out - enjoy it while you can philosophy.

Now it's past my waist with no sign of slowing! It is slowly getting greyer (grayer?), though. And four years ago I stopped shaving too ;)
