Will you wear a face mask 😷?

I'm torn. On the one hand, I wonder how much it will help. On the other, I figure it couldn't hurt. Something is better than nothing. I don't go out except to the grocery store now.

I'll probably make a few, just to have them. I have a sewing machine, but no fabric and will have to scrounge through my closet to find something to sacrifice. Hm, I wonder if I still have that bag of clothing that I was going to donate...there might be something in there.

And one can always try this one that requires no sewing. If you don't own a bandana, you can use a 22"square of fabric.

No I want it. My immune system is unreal.. No taste and smell and I'll be 10 pound lighter. totally worth it.

reply

Except there are no guarantees you'll get the mild version. That's what worries me. Being older, I fear it could be bad.

reply

I don't want to be scary but I'm not afraid to die.

reply

Ya know, I'm not afraid of death either. I've had a pretty good life, and I've probably outlived my usefulness so when it happens, I'll be okay with it. I just don't want my children and grandchildren to feel sad.

reply

me neither. I'm not afraid. I guess that comes from seeing a lot of stuff you didn't want to see.

reply

That, and the increasing health challenges that come with getting older - all those aches and pains that you eventually realize are never going to get any better. THAT'S depressing.

reply

I was one of those who thought it was dumb to wear one. Now I'm wearing one when I'm in a public place...which is pretty rare now anyway. I've got an N95 which is the best kind to use.

reply

I discovered this guy tonight. Watched several of his videos. He seems know what he's talking about and has some interesting info.

One of them is about the studies done comparing the effectiveness of the N-95 masks compared to surgical masks. You might want to take a look.

Cat do you have any other Covid 19 people you’ve been regularly listening to?

reply

Not really. I try to not listen to or read a lot about it, unless it's about a specific practical topic I search on. I forget now what it was I was searching for when I found this guy's. Do you, MrM?

reply

Just Dr John from the UK’s daily update which is a bit of a global assessment. He has been right on the money about this pandemic since it was in China and usually has great info.

reply

Thanks! Someone mentioned this guy in the comments of one of the videos I saw this afternoon, in a way that made me think he was a solid source. I meant to copy his name and search, but forgot to. I'll take a look :)

reply

i wore a face mask on my regular visit to the emergency section in the local hospital. nurses there were mad at me for visiting too much. i saw a effed up victim brought to the emergency room. He looked near death. 10 Covid victims in that hospital. I too have diarhea after 2-3 weeks of fever and coughing, however i am not letting them know to check me ;)

reply

after diarhea comes breathing problems, stage 4 or 5. I am prepared for death. Been there done that. I feel like i've died before infinite times.

reply

No because I won't be having any face-to-face contact with anyone (except my household) until this is over.

reply

Here's a scenario I can envision happening in the current climate:

A guy walks into a liquor store, his face covered with a makeshift face mask. When he takes his purchase to the counter, it turns out to be an armed robbery. As he's calmly walking away from the scene, a police cruiser just happens to be going by. The cop sees him, thinking, "Hmm, there's a good citizen in compliance. "

reply

I thought about this too, db. πŸ˜†

Stores these days are looking like there's a mass stick up going on. 😱

reply

Yup! Strange days we're in.

reply

I've seen a few guys walking around with bandanas tied halfway around their faces, like old-timey bandits in a Western.

reply

Y'all realise its not for your protection its for others right?
The masks are to stop you breathing on other people, not to stop the virus getting to you.
The other people's masks are there to stop the virus getting to you.
So its kind of a team effort , and a bit selfish not to wear one.

although i agree if your outdoors but nowhere near other people its not necessary.

reply

It's for both. If someone's not wearing a mask and expels virus laden droplets, your mask will prevent the droplets from getting into your mouth or nose. And vice versa.

Something someone said to me a few weeks ago made a lot of sense and it's something I now do: Before you leave the house, wash your hands. That's to help protect other people. When you get home, wash them again. That's for your own protection.

reply

Yeah, my boyfriend and I have been wearing handkerchief face masks and gloves. We’re currently traveling cross country to get home and get the fuck off the east coast. People in the south not wearing masks, standing on top of each other in the grocery stores. Fuck that.

reply

I wont
They should be available to health, police and emergency workers
