What did you watch this week baby (03/29-04/04)

Hi guys, hope y'all keeping it clean and safe. im still working and these are pretty scary times to do so. I posted a video on tiktok about wanting to stay home to save lives and it got 21k views in 3 days!

My week:

Bon cop bad cop 2 (2017 TV): Formulaic, action packed, cheesy, entertaining, Hollywood copycat and never boring, I rate this French Canadian flick: 6.5/10

Outbreak (1995 TV): I saw this one at the theatre didn’t I? I’m not too sure but I think so. Anyways, 95’s the greatest movie year and this is another one of its gems. Actually, it’s one of the lesser one but still, it’s gripping, well acted and I loved these cute little monkeys. It’s also very scary to watch in our actual context. My rating: 7.5/10
Random fact: The other day my wife asked me what I thought would happen if there was no one to work in the supermarkets anymore and I told her that the army would probably roll down our street and we would eat what’s being delivered to us. That was before watching this movie.

Twins (1988 TV): Unlike Junior, that I also rewatched recently, this one was a very pleasant experience. Arnie’s character was much more sympathetic and the chemistry with Danny was much more palpable. This is the kind of 80s flick that makes me feel all fuzzy inside. my rating: 7.5/10

Journey to the centre of the earth (2008 Blu-ray): It’s starting to be a little tradition of ours to watch this 3D movie around spring time. It’s our third year in a row. It’s the only Blu-ray I ever found that came with those 3D glasses so if you know any other film that did this let me know. This is a 5.5-6/10 movie but I rate it 7/10 for the living room 3D experience.

Hi Stonekeeper!

I really enjoyed Bon cop bad cop 2 rating it an 8/10. I saw Outbreak once shortly after it came out and don't remember a lot of it, but I rated it a 7/10. Twins was fun, a 7/10 for me. I've seen Journey to the centre of the earth once years ago, but don't really remember much of it and never rated it.

Bait (1954) 7/10
Swiss Miss (1938) 7/10
The Single Moms Club (2014) 8/10
The Bad News Bears (1976) 6/10
Vice and Virtue (1963) 5/10
A Vigilante (2018) 8/10
You Can’t Kill Stephen King (2012) 7/10
Tirza (2010) 7/10
Queen of Niendorf (2017) 7/10
Bully (2001) 8/10

Paperhouse (1988) 6/10

Stay healthy and safe!

''So that is films from 7 different decades that I watched this week.'' Yes and also a good variety of language too; German, Dutch, French... Good job. You deserve the medal of ''The Movie Watcher of the week''.

You Can’t Kill Stephen King (2012): lol, wtf!? Was it funny? Gore? Sexy?

I bought Bully a few months ago. I love Kids and hope this will be close.

Glad you enjoyed the Reboot and Menteur. I rated both 7/10

reply

You Can’t Kill Stephen King was funny in an intentionally campy/cheesy, over the top sort of way. There is some gore and some sex appeal (but no nudity). It is fun in a silly sort of way.

I'm a Terminator junkie so I watched the original 1984 movie and Judgement Day.. It was Sci Fi day yesterday on the Sundance channel, so also watched Predator.
Been watching NFL football all week - games from various seasons. It's not possible to remember who won the majority of them, so it's like watching a live game.

reply

Judgement Day is amongst my faorite action movies. I rate it 9.5/10. The first one 8/10. You can never go wrong with a little Arnie right?

reply

The Friends of Eddie Coyle (1973) - Robert Mitchum is great playing the aging criminal who is trying to stay out of Jail. I thought the plot was a bit confusing in places. Loved the Bobby Orr reference. 7.5/10

Cleopatra (1963) - Finally saw this four hour epic of a movie. It is too long. Taylor was terrible in the lead role. Harrison was hilarious as Caesar - who knew Caesar was so funny? 6.5/10

The Last Stand (2013) - This had potential. Should have made it a serious crime movie and gotten rid of the one liners and Johnny Knoxville. 6/10

The Hired Hand (1971) - A western with a 7 rating that I have never heard of. People seem to like on the boards. I thought it was a bit dry with not much action. Oates is the more interesting character and steals the spotlight from Peter Fonda. 6.5/10

Four Columbo episodes:

The Greenhouse Jungle 1972
The Bye Bye Sky High I.Q. Murder Case 1977
Dead Weight 1971
Old Fashioned Murder 1976

reply

The last stand: One of the coolest Korean director + Arnie should be a sure hit right? Well no, I agree with you. 6/10

Columbo is good in my book.

Greetings! I tried to watch less tv this week and then ended up watching game drives on youtube here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCV6HJBZD_hZcIX9JVJ3dCXQ/videos

I did still watch wayyyyy too much with very little sleep.

Crawl (2019) 7/10 formulaic but fun

The Houses October Built (2014) 7/10 - I love halloween and haunts so this was right up my alley. Decent mocumentary

The Houses October Built 2 (2017) 6.5/10 - was missing something that I liked from the first one

Main Street Meats (2017) 7/10 - low budget but great fun

The Dead Don't Die (2019) 7.5/10 I really appreciated the humour in this. It was so very dry. I do like Jarmusch's movies, so I think that helped me like this one where others didn't. I didn't like this as much as Only Lovers Left Alive, but this was right up there. Adam Driver was great.

The Cat from Outer Space (1978) 8/10 One of my favourites from when I was a kid and it still held up for me.

The Warriors (1979) 8/10 Another one I hadn't seen in years and still found it really enjoyable.

The Tamarind Seed (1974) 8/10 I had never seen this one, and I'm suprised that it flew under my radar for so long. I really enjoyed it and wasn't expecting the spy thriller I got. I was expecting more romance. I do think next week I will have to watch Dr. Zhivago again.

I almost bought the dead don’t die but the guy at the counter has similar tastes as I and did not recommend it. I was already unsure about it so it was enough for me to put it back on the shelf. I paid about 15$ to get Only lovers left alive a few years ago and was underwhelmed. I’ll see TDDD someday but won’t pay for it.

The warriors: fun but too short. 7/10

reply

It's an acquired taste for sure. I would guess that there might be one of my friends that would like it. Perhaps 2 if they are in the right mood, but I think most would find it really boring. If you're not sure don't pay for it.

Dirty Grandpa (2016)
Predictable and immature, with a few good jokes and a sexy Aubrey Plaza. 6/10

reply

I agree, a few good laughs and a new low for De Niro: 5.5/10

Hi Stone😃

Tiger King (20) was impossible to turn
off! Frightening to think that a handful of idiots own 6,000 tigers and Lord knows how many Lions in my country...
Morons.

Uncut Gems (19) I watched it twice, Adam Sandler is amazing and I don't think I've ever said that before
What a tense ride and boy that ending!

Ozark S3 (20) Still delivers a punch and what more can be said about Bateman, the man is a phenom

Best wishes and stay well Amigo

reply

Journey to the Center of the Earth: 7/10
I'm in the process of watching Outbreak now. I like it so far.

Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist (2005) - Not many people like this. I did. (7/10)

Mirrors 2 (2010) - Expected nothing and got nothing. (6/10)

Christine (1983) - Some parts were really good but the ending was a letdown. (7/10)

Magnolia (1999) - These I don't get enough of. I know there are people here that hate this movie, so excuse me while I talk about how much I loved this movie. The stories, the performances, and everything about it captivated me. It was mesmerizing. (9/10)

Cocoon (1985) - It was all right but didn't do what I was hoping. (high 6/10)

Cocoon: The Return (1988) - Am I crazy for saying I liked this better than the original? Maybe, but I did and I don't care. (7/10)

The Platform (2019) - Started out good but I ended up being disappointed. (6/10)

Mirage (2018) - Very good. (8/10)

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984) - Really good, good story and visuals. The animation was outstanding for its time. (8/10)

Road to Perdition (2002) (7/10)

The Hidden Face (2011) (8/10)

Unforgiven (1992) (7/10)

The Invisible Guest (2016) (8/10)

Double Lover (2017) (6/10)

A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child (1989) (6/10)

Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001) (7/10)

Hard Eight (1996) (8/10)

Atlantis: Milo's Return (2003) (7/10)

Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991) (6/10)

reply

Christine: not bad dit did not leave a big impression on me neither. 6/10

The platform: liked it all. 7/10

Road to perdition: really, you don’t rate that gem higher? I loved it! 8.5/10

Unforgiven: solid but a bit overrated 7.5/10
