They seem to be insanely popular, are they really that useful? Does it work as well as a stockpot for steaming crab legs?

No, but I have two friends who do and they rave about how great they are.

yeah. sister does. it cooks FAST and tender.

Fast and tender, kinda tough to beat that. Usually it's one or the other.
