Does Anyone Feel Like We’re In The Twilight Zone?

I do! I ventured out the other evening to shop at Winn-Dixie. We’ve been receiving home delivery from Wal-Not, but after 5 times of ordering the same items to be not available, I gave up! In side Winn-Dixie was strange. Maybe a hand full of milk cartons/jugs. Bread was a premium. I’ve been planning for awhile to prepare pulled beef...daughter can’t eat pork.

I headed toward the meat department. Hmm? The meat counter was full...only the ground beef was missing. I’m going to get a pot roast I said to myself. I think the whole store heard me gasp! “$27.00 for a pot roast! I can’t believe this! $27.00 for a pot roast” I scared 3 men away from the counter! I could read their thoughts “Not only have the jails been opened, apparently they’ve let out the loons from the asylums!” Needless to say I didn’t buy one.

OK, we need lunch meat. “What in the hell caused the packaged lunch meat to sky rocket?” OK, I’ll tootle on down to the deli. “Say what?” The deli was closed down and dark with nothing behind the glass counter. “Where am I? I know! This is Candid Camera! Isn’t it?” I’m spinning around looking up & down the aisles. “Where is everyone?” Of course I didn't get an answer. The only people I saw were other customers with that same blank look on their faces...sorta zombie like. It was then I realized it wasn’t Candid Camera...it was The Twilight Zone!

It's damn sure strange.

People are in a bit of a panic just now Sweetie

It's important to remain calm and organized which you clearly are!

My local Walmart was a madhouse today but happily a couple of folks shared a story or a comment with me
I like to talk to the people and I found a couple of folks that were willing to chat

We should be back in business in no time 👍
Hang in there!
LOVE you kspkap❤️

They passed anti-gouging laws here. It pays to have a strong state government sometimes.

I'd imagine if I'd taken enough cid to go grocery shopping inside of a picardy shepherd the events to follow might be unusual.

Sometimes it does feel that way. The morning of April 1st I woke up with the faint hope all of this was some early, prolonged, not funny joke.

That's insane charging nearly $30 just for a pot roast. WTH?

Last night I had to stop at a grocery store downtown to pick up a special order of neck bones for my dog. Nowhere else carries them and I have to order in a good supply and freeze most of the packages.

Much to my surprise, the store was packed! If they wouldn't have sold them if I didn't come pick them up, I'd have just left and forgotten about shopping for a few more days. I didn't want to be around that many people. It was good, I guess, but weird, to see so many wearing masks and wearing gloves. The gloves don't make sense but with a mask it makes it less likely anyone's going to unintentionally spit or spray around me, and get anyone's spit or spray on them.

I was out of bread and for a few minutes I was transported back in time, trying to locate the kind of bread I like, then suddenly realised there was *lots* of bread! It looked almost like pre-corona days. That was nice.

Meat counter looked as it did in pre-corona days too. It was only the bare TP, paper towel, water, and baby diaper stuff shelves that were bare. But I did manage to score a thermometer, for only $4, and even Amazon had been fresh out of them. Except for rectal thermometers. No thanks, didn't need one that bad 😂

These are strange days to be sure, Ksp, but we'll get through them. Think of the stories we'll have to tell when it's all over!

It’s been 2 weeks since I’ve spoken to another human being face-to-face outside of my household (the missus goes for an ‘essentials’ once a week).

Not even to other runners sprinting away in the early hours, from a safe 6' away?

reply

I wave, but they’re too far away to even shout ‘morning’ to.

What made it surreal for me a few days ago was when I discovered I had my pick of any parking area I wanted in a barren downtown area. I was on a quest for, you guessed it, a package of toilet paper, after having stocked up on a few essentials from a couple of other stores. I was actually in need of it and trying to get ahead of the governor's 'stay at home order', which was due to go into effect at 12:01AM the next morning.

It appears we may have more panic buying on the horizon. You may have to resort to newspapers! I have a feeling what we’re going through is nothing compared to what this country had to sacrifice for WWll. They probably had toilet paper though. I’m so happy I buy in bulk. I’ve got TP stashed in places I forgot! I am using cloth napkins instead of paper products.

reply

Hmmm... toilet cloth napkins.

reply

Oh good grief! I did leave that impression, didn’t I? 😱 Cloth napkins instead of paper at dinner time!

reply

There was a convenience store holdup in our town where the robber said" Sorry bro, corona".

Think that'll hold up in court?

reply

That's hilarious and sad all at the same time.

reply

At least he was sorry.
