How long has it been since you've been in self-quarantine or lockdown?

I've lost track. Has it been a month already? Three weeks?

This is one of the many times I wish MC had threads and posts dated by dates, not just a vague "a month ago" or "a year ago."

Day 14.

reply

Oh that's right, the UK went on lockdown a few days after California. Day 16 here, since 3/19/20. Time flies when you're having a blast!

reply

I’ve kept really busy and feel surprised how quickly the time has passed.

reply

I've also kept myself busy. It was pretty much a breeze for me, until yesterday. Not sure why. Well, I do, it was getting news that they're closing access to several of the outdoor/nature trails I go on frequently and help keep me sane and balanced under normal circumstances.

reply

Not 100% lockdown - but pretty issolated. I've gone to the grocery 2X, picked up carryout food 2X,(drive through only), and I've taken walks outside.

The last time I was out living life normally was on 3/13 when we celebrated my son's B'Day at a restaurant. That seemed to be the tipping point because the next day all hell broke loose.

reply

I don't think many are on 100% lockdown. Thank god.

I don't remember the specific date but it must have been around 3/14 when all hell broke loose all over the place. The situation was changing radically then from day to day. At least that's slowed down.

reply

Going on 5 years now...

😄

reply

Since March 18th, but in 3-4 days, I'll have to go to the supermarket to get groceries - I'm almost out.

reply

A day longer than I. If you're in one or more of the at risk groups, there are resources for you, people more than willing to help by grocery shopping for you.

I had to go yesterday. I was running out of a lot of things too.

reply

I still have the flu, but no one is going to help me.

reply

Sure they will. Even more reason to. They can drop off your groceries at your door.

How are you feeling?

reply

There is no they... No one is going to help me. I live alone. Maybe you have me confused with someone else.

I feel fatigued, and I have pain all over my body, with a laptop that barely works.

reply

What I mean is locally, your city/town/whatever there are resources, people to contact (they) who will help you. I've encouraged people here to join Nextdoor.com for this reason. There are maps in every area that show people where you live who are willing to help. I can probably locate the same or similar resources for you another way, it's that Nextdoor is the easiest.

Oh crap. I'm so sorry. Do you have an aspirin? I was surprised but when I had it the aspirin not only helped with the body aches but I felt better overall too.

reply

Those are classic symptoms of the virus. Maybe you should consider getting tested.

reply

I don't have a doctor, and I only leave when I have to get groceries.

reply

Same here. I live alone also and have to deal with computer lag which forces me to constantly restart my browser, pc or both, so I understand your frustration there.

If you don't have a doctor you can call the emergency ward of your nearest hospital. They have to respond to you and take it from there. From what I've seen of your situation, you should qualify for a test. I don't see how you can even consider going out with your present symptoms. You know, if anyone you encounter in public gets even the slightest inkling of how ill you are, it's going to garner a severe reaction and compound the difficulty of your situation dramatically.

reply

I hate doctors, and I hate leaving the house. And I sure as hell hate any kind of test.

reply

I'm sorry for offering these suggestions then. I guess you just want to wallow in your misery and maybe even have a death wish.

reply

^ this.

reply

Ok, I just found out that you can call 211 and get directed to the help you need. Doesn't matter what city you're in.

reply

211 didn't work.. (I'm in the US)

reply

I am too. Are you using a cell phone? I saw something about an 800 number if 211 didn't work. I can track it down for you. Which city are you in? If you'd rather not reply publicly, PM me and I'll look up the number for you to call.

reply

I already looked up the 800 number, and the automated operator gives me the same message. There are probably many trying. Thanks, though.

reply

What did the message say? They have to have some way for people to talk to a human being and get help.

Please do consider joining Nextdoor. It has governmental types of help but also neighbour to neighbour help (which is sounding like it's going to be the most effective).

reply

"We're sorry, your call did not go through"

I would have joined, but I'm not giving out my phone number, or my address for a postcard.

reply

😐 So much for that "help."

The thing that's great about Nextdoor is people are *not* anonymous, which means they have to have a way to confirm you're who you're saying you are. It also means there's a lot more responsibility for what people say and do, and therefore a decent level of trust.

It was 3 years ago, but I can tell you this: I've never had a single call or piece of mail from them. None of the other people on the site can find out where I live unless I choose to show it, and even then it'd only be people in my immediate neighbourhood. Phone number is nowhere on the site. I don't think there's even a way to choose to display it. IOW, I feel secure in the level of privacy I've got on there.

reply

But, giving my # doesn't mean I live at a certain address.

reply

No. That's why they want to send the post card.

reply

They won't send a postcard if I give them a phone number.

reply

True. I dunno, can't explain their thinking. All I know is I feel safe there, this is the third disaster I'm going through, and the neighbour to neighbour help has been invaluable. Even under normal circumstances, although there is some occasional bickering, the information is great.

reply

I think I can explain their thinking. They are in business trying to make money. This information can be sold repeatedly to many different places. I know this from personal experience.

reply

As far as I can see, they get their revenue from advertising. The "sponsored" ads on the site. Real estate ads are a regular feature, but they're not too obtrusive so I'm good with that.

If they sold my phone and address, the people they sold it to have been inexplicably quiet. I noticed no change. But when I did notice a change was each time I put in a change of address with the USPS 😐

reply

We put the Schlage down here and it's been three weeks.

reply

Probably since March 14 or around the time I came back from a trip to the West Coast.
