How long has it been since you've been in self-quarantine or lockdown?

I've lost track. Has it been a month already? Three weeks?

This is one of the many times I wish MC had threads and posts dated by dates, not just a vague "a month ago" or "a year ago."

reply

Lets see, it must be over sixty years now...

reply

Are you 80?

reply

Memories of the "newborns Ward", Quasi? :)

reply

No nothing like that. But for as long as I can remember my life has been in a sophisticated lockdown.

reply

Interesting. You're not trapped in a bell tower, are you? (Hope I'm not being too flippant)..

reply

Not exactly. Put it this way, I was rejected by the Borg but not forgotten. But they have their use for me. So even if you are not assimilated by the Borg they still have their pound of flesh out of you.

reply

Are you speaking metaphorically? I mean, metaphorically metaphorically...

reply

Yes I suppose between a metaphor and an allegory. Veiled truth.

reply

A PM might be the best course.

My job shut down 2 weeks ago
We Zoomed today for an hour but I had trouble with the audio

It was good to see my coworkers and read their comments anyway

reply

Doesn't it seem like it's been longer? I remember when your job shut down.

My current landlord wanted to get me to Zoom with her. I gave it a weak try, then resorted to regular phone. Easier. Glad you enjoyed seeing your coworkers again :)

reply

Yeah, I really miss my peeps:(

I figured out that the chrome needs to be updated for Zoom to work...stupid me, I'm a blockhead with half this tech stuff!

reply

I just got back from Walmart
It's madness!
Cops on patrol in the entrance and exit, 1/3 of the customers and workers had masks
on, lots of empty shelves!

We dropped $500 on groceries and supplies so we wont need to go again for a little while

On line I met an old man with a WWII Vet ball cap on his head, so we got to talking...He says 'this is something but the Germans were way worse'πŸ˜…
Perspective is a blessing

reply

I wear nitrile gloves, but not a mask. You're just constantly
washing it, so I say good luck with it.

reply

I had two weeks off until this last Sunday, approx the 15th to the 29th. Luckily I've been able to work with a small family that has problems but Mom goes out minimally and the kids don't go into the community during this period. I hope it all works out.

reply

I hope it all works out too πŸ™

I'm on a month's compulsory unpaid leave as of this week. The country as a whole is not on lockdown, schools and malls still open etc, but the PM is making an announcement this evening and word is that it's coming.

reply

Unpaid leave...that's rough!
Best wishesπŸ‘

reply

Thanks - I’ll be ok, my partner is still working and we already have plenty of food in the house, but it’ll be tough. And much harder for many other people.

reply

Great attitude
Hang in there murrayπŸ˜ƒ

reply

Thank you! 😊 πŸ™

reply

Ugh, unpaid leave has got to be hard. Where are you? I'm surprised your schools and malls are still open.

reply

Yep, it’s going to be a long month, but at least there won’t be much opportunity to spend money! I’m in Singapore. The announcement finally came last night that non-essential businesses are closing for a month from next Tuesday:

Day 12

reply

The first case in my town was a month ago. The "lockdown" started in stages about a week later.

It started to get bad about 2 weeks ago b/c that's when Adlerian and his prognostication disappeared.

reply

I think you've got to be locked down the longest. Well, except for Quasi and McQualude.

It officially started here on the 19th of March, but I was self-quarantining for at least a week before that.

How are you holding up? How's your mom doing?

reply

I'm fine for a few more days before making another grocery run.

My mother is the same but her town was the last without cases in my county until a few days ago. So it's there in that tiny town now. There's not much you can do. Need to get food and meds to her at some point.

reply

Good to hear you and your mom are doing okay, although needing to make a store run soon, and meds for her too.

That's the thing, all we can do is take all sensible precautions. TBH, I think if magically everyone were tested and the results 100% reliable, and it showed everyone who'd already had it, people would freak because I think it was way more common than we currently have any way of proving.

Which is why I'm not paying attention to the news showing how many confirmed cases in my area. It was already here! It was already in lots of places.

Didn't you mention your mom has nearby friends and neighbours who can give her a hand?

reply

yeah, but do I want hands near her if even well-meaning? Like you say, many more have it than they realize, and this clinical pic still has some mystery elements. Some go down fast and hard for some reason. A 30 yr old baseball coach in the town next to me died. No underlying conditions and in good shape.

reply

Maybe it'd be better if you did the shopping for both of you, then sanitised everything before giving it to her (and bringing it in your own place). That way you'd be as sure as you can be.

It really is weird how difficult it is to get a decent understanding of this thing. AFAIK, kids are still safe, as far as getting seriously ill, but everyone else? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

17 days...

About 2 years.

πŸ˜„ Feels like it at times.

I just saw a YT video on people in lockdown living in tiny houses. Looks like they're a world-wide community of some sort. The space I'm living in (but not for long!) is tiny but I can't imagine being cooped up in a legit tiny house now. Only good thing is. most of them are on big pieces of land.
