Tampa police issue arrest warrant for patsor holding Sunday service

Extraordinary times.

A arrest warrant was issued for pastor Rodney Howard Brown for holding two large Sunday services in Tampa Florida.

The pragmatic argument - the pastor is putting lives in danger by continuing his service.

The human argument- that religious services is a essential human need, especially for seniors.

I really don't know where I fall on this issue.

Condemning religious seniors to be forceably isolated at this time seems cruel, on the other allowing seniors to congragate as usual could kill them.

the last place a senior should be. stay home.

and yet everyone was pissed off at the spring break kids

reply

Are you joking me!?

The pastor gave himself up for arrest, charged with a misdemeanor and was released.

He continues to hold church services.

I was right, the government (Fla) has banned most social gatherings of more than 10, but did not hinder the freedom of people going to places of worship.

reply

Wait, are you saying he's still holding public church services like before? I hope that's not what you're saying.

reply

He was, but the public pressure got to him and changed his mind.

It is an interesting question though. It isn't regarded as a 'public gathering' for some...it is church. Spiritual food is just as important as regular food for regular churchgoers.

You can give the US government power to limit gatherings at beaches, bars, streets but to extend that to churches would be crossing the Rubicon.

Thankfully, most pastors and priests are sensible.

reply

After being issued the warrant, he was doing it AGAIN?? Holy crapola. Well, at least he's stopped now but that's unbelievable.

It's a public gathering. It's just a specific type of public gathering: religious or spiritual.

As someone else posted, it'd be one thing if they all chose to gather together and stay there. But to go to such a gathering and expose one another to this virus, and then come back out to be around friends, family, and strangers and potentially cost them their lives? No.

"Thankfully, most pastors and priests are sensible."

Thankfully so. I'm glad this one finally came to his senses but it took him an unreasonably long time to do it.
