I'm still waiting on the status of two Video Game Tournaments:

-Combo Breaker 2020, which is held on May 22-24 in Schaumburg, IL

-Evo 2020, which is held on July 31-August 2 in Las Vegas

At this rate, I think Combo Breaker might be cancelled. I say that because we haven't peaked in the number of coronavirus cases in the U.S. (that is the number of cases hasn't been on a downward trend yet.) This sucks especially because I've already paid for the tournament fees and the hotel. It would have also been my first big tourney I would compete in.

EVO 2020, although a bit further away, is also at risk. That's another tournament I've been looking forward to, and me and my parents have planned our recent West Coast trips around the event.

In short, damn this stupid virus for all the havoc it's caused....

I would bet your July/Aug event will be happening. For the earlier one, maybe they will at least offer a refund given the situation.

reply

Probably. I hope that's the case at the very least.

reply

What game do you compete in?

reply

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. These tournaments specialize in Fighting Games.

reply

Oh, I play Street Fighter II and Tekken 3 when I was young. Now I watch EVO and other fighting games tournaments on Youtube, but mostly SFV and Tekken 7. Smash Bros tho'... I don't understand how it's actually played.

reply

Basically regular Smash (KO opponents off the stage, more damage = more knockback) but with no items and stages which do not have any random hazards. All of the random variables are taken away, so it's mostly a test of skill.

reply

Ah, that's better then. Competitive games with random stuffs is unfair.
