First The Toilet Paper, Then Paper Towels, Sanitizer Wipes, Now Diapers & Baby Formula!

We had our laughs over the disappearing TP just a week ago. Did anyone think it would come to what we are witnessing now? What in the hell is going on in this country? Absolute greed and hoarding. Why are Americans so damn selfish? I am one and I’m ashamed of my fellow citizens. *Truckers delivering goods are being attacked.* We are one of the richest countries in the world and the food shelves are going bare!

Diapers and formula? Why? I never thought I would see the day when I couldn’t buy a loaf of bread, eggs, meat, etc. I buy in bulk staple items. I have a freezer full of food so we are doing OK. There are items I do need and have attempted to order the same items from Wal-Not 5 days in a row! Today I had a box of cereal delivered. When I opened the door the delivery gal and I both burst out laughing! Out of 15 items ordered a box of cereal made the cut! 🤣

But, this is getting old real fast! People aren’t working so there’s no income coming into the home. What are people doing who don’t have a freezer full of food? Take-out isn’t an option because there’s no funds to purchase it. Now the babies? The babies are being affected because of the damn hoarders!

Finally Wal-Not has put a limit of 2 on the same item, but what good is that if the items aren’t available? We cut down on the use of paper towels and have started using cloth napkins along with the several rolls of bamboo “paper” towels which can be laundered. I’ve purchased 2 Bidet toilet seats to cut down the use of TP.

I need to sanitize my laundry due to my husband’s leg ulcers and my daughter always has an infection of some sort...we both have IBS. (Good thing I have 3 toilets!) I was using the Lysol Sanitizer Rinse additive, but of course it’s no longer available. I’ve always used Borax to give my detergent an extra boost. I use white vinegar at times to set color (my mom used it to cut the bad sudsing we had at one time from phosphates & to help remove lint). I got to thinking and did research, Borax and white vinegar used together disinfects! I’ve conquered that! I also had 480 baby wipes made from bamboo and natural ingredients delivered yesterday, but they can’t be flushed.

So, folks what products are you having a problem locating? Are you feeling the pinch? BTW, bottled water is disappearing off the shelves! Why? We aren’t preparing for a hurricane! All I can say is, God save us from the stupidity of the hoarders. But, sometimes ya just can’t fix stupid!

*Edit: Someone told me truckers were being attacked for supplies. I cannot locate a source to back that statement. I should not have posted without verifying.

Some places aren’t offering money orders now because nobody wants to handle cash and elderly people i know a freaking out because their ssa comes on a debit card and they aren’t good at figuring out autopay or using automated phone systems to pay by phone. Myself i had a hell of a time finding frozen meals, ground beef, bananas, toilet paper, and hand soap, just to name a few.

I don’t know where you’re located, but I haven’t been able to buy ground beef either. I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I’ve always been one of those people who buy ahead so I don’t run out. I always have the makings for chili, spaghetti, chicken dishes, etc. on hand. I now also buy in bulk from Amazon. I have a bottom freezer full of food so I’m good. I’m retired so I have time to shop on line. I feel for the people who were working and have kids to feed. All of these shortages are due to the selfish hoarders!

Im in CA. I usually buy bulk too but i lost some hours at work way before all this started so i had to give up most bulk options. It’s really sad, i talked to guy one who had his 5 grandkids at his house and 1 roll of toilet paper at home and he had no luck finding any so he cut up bath towels. It’s pretty crazy out there, i watched a lady fill up her cart with hungry man dinners and had her friend carry 8 more since those 8 kept falling off the pile. People have stopped caring about others and only care about themselves.

Bath towels? He’s going to have major plumbing problems if they’re flushing! The best thing to do in cases like that is to soften newspaper by rubbing it back and forth between the hands, wipe, then toss in a waste can. Even if accidentally flushed newspaper disintegrates easily in water. Then step into the shower for a final rinse. Just be sure to disinfect with bleach.

reply

Yeah I hope he told the kids not to flush! My neighbor is saving newspaper as their back up plan.

I went looking for rice today. And found some! Uncle Ben's long grain brown rice. Takes like an hour to cook. But I'm grateful!
There were 5 one pound bags on the shelf. I took only one, thinking of others.
The bitch beside me, struggling behind an overflowing cart, snatched up the other 4 without regard for the elderly man coming up the aisle.
Disappointment falls miles short of my feelings on this.

I think I would have said something. Something like pretending to be on the phone saying “Don’t you just love these hoarders? Thinking of no one but themselves! How selfish some yahoos are! Gotta go! Bye!” Wal-Not has put a limit of 2 on the same items.

I went shopping at the supermarket today and it was kind of a weird lucky-dip situation. No toilet paper but lots of paper towels. No pasta but lots of white rice. Plenty of mince meat ( ground beef ) but no tomato sauce and so on.

reply

Well, let’s see. Brown the beef, drain on the paper towels, add the rice, then go from there. :-)

reply

Yep time for experimenting with some odd combinations. Riceghetti with mustard pickle sauce !

Yum! At one time many years ago my husband & I with 2 kids were poorer than church mice. My husband always said I knew every dish one could make with ground beef! If you have an onion chop & brown with the meat. Drain, add some tomato soup & chili powder. Or leave out the tomato soup & chili powder. Make hamburger gravy by adding cream of mushroom soup mixed with flour, water, Worcestershire sauce, add the rice, bring to a boil, then simmer until rice is cooked.

reply

Sounds good, particularly the second recipe.

You can also make a cheap hamburger, rice veggie soup. Brown meat w/onion, celery & garlic. Drain, add 2 qts. water, beef bouillon, 1 15oz diced tomatoes, salt, pepper to taste, a little basil, bring to boil, simmer until onion & celery is soft, add 2 16 oz frozen mixed veggies or frozen soup mix, bring to boil, simmer for about 20 min. At times I empty the fridge and throw everything in but the kitchen sink! :-) If you cook cabbage save about 1/4 raw piece to chop & add to soup. It adds a delicious flavor.

I went to whole foods today and had no problem buying anything here in Az but I almost broke down in the cracker aisle and cried. I think its finally sinking in.. I kept thinking about that twilight zone where there moving into the sun and she goes to buy juice for her and the old lady. She comes back so proud she got juice.

reply

I don’t recall that episode. Is it from the original series?

reply

Yeah Its kind of a running joke here because its so hot in AZ. The Midnight Sun season 3 episode 10. She goes shopping for drinks and food.. Mainly drinks. I think this starting to get to me.

Buddy in another state said there was a run on flour, sugar, salt, and coffee at his local groceries, they were already out of paper products and some cleaning stuff.
