I think I am losing a rescue cat I got 2 years ago.

He was 12 yrs old at the time. He is pushing 15 now. He was morbidly obese when I got him. I named him "Farley". He is a good weight now. Now he is being picky about food. Listless. I've seen this show before. He is current on shots. I'm giving him fresh water which he is drinking, which is a good sign. I also have an IV bag of ringers that I can administer but I am hesitant because when you start that it's only a matter of time.

Named him "Farley" because he was obese. It was an apt name because he was obese and also because Chris Farley was a good fella that tried to please people just like my buddy "Farley" has.

I want to laugh so I'll leave my favorite Chris Farley skit. If anybody cares keep my buddy "Farley" in your heart.

All the best to Farley

He's a good fella

Get him to the vet. Normally when animals are noticeably ill, they are very sick because they hide it so well.

reply

Yeah I have. His kidneys are failing. This has been happening for as long as I have had him. Sometimes he bounces back. I know what he is going through.

reply

He's lived an incredibly long life for a feline and, regardless of his previous quality of life, I'm certain his last few years have been comfortable and well cared-for. His affection for you is boundless, I'm sure 😃. Try to be there when he passes and his wants and needs will have been exceeded.

reply

Thanks. I'm going to administer ringers in the morning. Get some fluid in him.

reply

It's usually a last resort (for assorted reasons), but an enema is a very effective way to get fluids into the body. It's usually done when the subject is too dehydrated to insert an IV. Or if the digestive tract has difficulty with fluids orally.
Just a thought.
Looking back... that's a weird paragraph. My bad. Lol!

reply

Nah man I can pinch his skin on his back and get a needle in.

I'm not a Doctor but I have played one many times.

reply

Right between the neck and the shoulder blades? Good spot. Fluids between the skin and muscle is good. Takes its time getting into the body.
Yeah, I've played doctor with mine too ;)
I figured if I can do the same thing the vet will do and save big bucks then that's the way to go, right?
Anytime I'm uncertain, I always let the pros handle it.

reply

All the best to Farley.

reply

Thanks. Rubbing his chin and laying by him to let him know to not be scared.

reply

I'm thinking of you and Farley..
I've had more than a few of those long nights myself ...but you never know. It might not be his time yet.
I'm harboring a 17 year old black cat that was my mother's, He amazes me.

reply

I'll harbor your worry if you harbor mine.

reply

Wishing you and Farley all the best - hope he's okay.

My partner and I adopted Earl Grey after he had been hit by a car four years ago and cannot imagine life without him. He has had rocky health including ongoing kidney issues so every time he is listless or regularly vomits causes anxiety. Do get Farley to a vet quickly.

reply

With respect, I know what is happening. I keep hairballs from forming and I keep him from vomiting by periodic vaseline on Farley's nose. I have a bag of ringers in the fridge that I will administer tomorrow.

reply

Oh no, I'm sorry :(. There may still be hope for Farley. It is a good sign that he's drinking water. Is he eating? Does he appear to be dehydrated to you? I assume so or you wouldn't be talking about Ringers.

I'll definitely keep Farley in my heart.

Bless your heart for adopting an older animal, who also had the health issue of obesity. It takes a special kind of kind soul to do that.

💕

I am going to administer ringers tomorrow. He is in no pain but I want to get ahead of the problem.

Me? Yeah, I am drawn towards pain. I'm also the same cat that plays pool all night at the bar.

I am the guy that spoons with my cat after winning $400 playing 8-ball.

I'm not sure there is a box that can contain me. I am not afraid anymore.

YOU HAVE A BIG DICK TOO!

reply

Farley has a huge dick. Abused for close to 12 years and made his way out.

reply

Good idea to get ahead of the problem. I've read the rest of the thread now. Here's hoping this is another situation where Farley boy bounces back! 🤗

"I am the guy that spoons with my cat after winning $400 playing 8-ball."

Aww. 👏

reply

I actually made $400 in a different way. I am also good at pool.
