david roback of rain parade, opal & mazzy star has died

david roback, psychedelic rock guitarist & songwriter, and a personal favourite musician, has died, and i am truly bummed to hear that.

roback's most famous for being the guitarist & song-writer in mazzy star, who had a big-ish hit in the mid-90s with fade into you, which i really liked.

and i also really liked his first band, rain parade, who had a really terrific 60s-style psychedelic pop debut album.

but i'll love him the most for the one album he recorded with kendra smith under the name 'opal.' that record, happy nightmare baby, was one of the primary soundtracks of my mopey late teens & early twenties.
